I haven’t created any film quizzes for a while, so it’s definitely time for a new one. I have been reading a lot recently, so the idea of writers on screen seemed an apt choice for the current post. No need to remember the name of the ficitonal writer involved, but can you guess the films below? Feedback as already welcome.
I was on Art Gowns’ latest post and as usual, was blown away by her talent. On the comments section we discussed how I had done many film quizzes, but none as yet on fashion. So remedying that is my latest quiz which celebrates the beauty and originality of female outfits over the decades. As these looks are so timeless, it felt wrong to chronicle them, so the order is random. How many of the films they’re from can you get? Which grabs your attention the most?
After seeing the documentary Spielberg, based on the legendary Ohio director, it got me thinking about the huge array of work Steven Spielberg has directed. In one of my early posts I created a quizbased on films he’s been involved in away from the camera, but he’s certainly earned a more full-scale celebration. How many do you recognise?
The Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics finishes today, after 16 drama-fuelled days. As with any major sporting event, there have been all stories. Records have been obliterated, heroes have appeared, legends created and dreams fulfilled. But there’s also been all kinds of disappointment on display too as years of hard work fall away in an instant. Inspired by a blog post on Vinnie H, below are 12 films on the Summer and Winter Olympics. Some are based on a true story, others entirely fictional. Can you work them out?
As shown in my previous quiz, there have been some seriously talented females behind the camera in charge of all kinds of critical and commercial successes within the last few decades. One quiz just wasn’t going to be enough, so I’ve added an extra set. And that’s without including the most recent smashes of Lady Bird and Wonder Woman, and films co-directed by women, like Persepolis, Shrek and Frozen. How many of the 15 below will you get?
There have been some truly inspirational females in Hollywood making their voices heard, matching with a growing increasing of films with female leads. That includes films like Wonder Woman, Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters and Hidden Figures, with a wide array of talented female stars. But it’s not just on screen where this talent is starting to show. Behind the camera, there have been some fantastic work going on by a number of women in all kinds of genres. You’ll notice some great films from up to 30 years ago as well. How many of these women-directed films do you recognise? Did any of them surprise you?
2017 sure has passed quickly, hasn’t it? It doesn’t seem so long ago since I was selecting my choices for the 2016 Films Post. Have you been pleased with this year’s standard overall? Which films have stood out for either good or bad reasons? Below, (and in no particular order), are a wide range in genre from the past 12 months. How well have you been paying attention? I haven’t seen the latest Star Wars (though will soon), but you’re more than welcome to offer any other suggestions.
I put up a quiz recently on one word films, ranging from 1927 to 2014. But that wasn’t enough. There really are so many really impressive ones that I just had to add an extra part. Will you do better than last time? Do you have a favourite of the 15 below?
I watched Casablanca again recently. It’s obvious why it’s considered one of the definitive classics. It got me thinking what other really awesome one word films there are. Turns out, more than you might realise. How many did you get? Any others you like that aren’t on the list?
As long as there have been big-screen budgets, there have been big screen flops. And when a film does bomb at the box office, it leads to all kinds of consequences for the studio, cast, crew, the franchise and even the genre itself. How many of the recent films below can you recognise? Any you feel don’t deserve to be on that list?
