Vivian Mitchell: Despite what you may think, I have nothing against y’all.
Dorothy Vaughan: I know… I know you probably believe that.
Kirsten Dunst and Octavia Spencer in the truly inspirational Hidden Figures (2016). Based on the true story as told in the book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly, the film tells of three black women who served a vital role in the early period of the Space Race. Highlighting that heroes can be found in all places, it reminds us of the outrageous racist prejudice that existed at the time and the grace, effort and ingenuity needed to overcome it.
Great movie. Thanks, Alex!
Your avatar does make me smile. I hope you get to see the film if you haven’t already.
I have seen it, Alex, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Your posts make me smile!
Right back at you. I like everything, especially the cartoons.
This says so much with only a few words. I still can never understand racism or any sort of prejudice. We are all different and that fact should be celebrated.
You read the history books and there was so much bigotry and hypocrisy about.
It is pretty shocking that these things were happening and that it wasn’t that long ago.
Oh I LOVE this scene and that line is absolutely brilliant!! Love your last sentence in this post too, Alex.
Thanks. I’m really happy there are more female superhero characters getting centre stage but I love movies where there’s a different kind of bravery too. That scene was very powerful but I did do a fist pump when Kevin Costner’s character destroyed the sign.
I have yet to see this. Friends of mine said it was fantastic. Great lines. Thanks, Alex.
Please do. An incredible set of women. Really well made film.
Probably the Oscar film I want to see the most. What a great line!
You need to! So inspirational. One of the most “girl power” films I’ve ever seen. Really well written and acted and told a story I wasn’t familiar with before.
I really want to see this film too!
Please do! Loved it.
My favourite movie. I remember this line. 🙂
There were quite a few I could have chosen but this was my favourite. So great you like it too. It did better in the US box office than La La Land actually.
I LOVED this line!
Thanks. There were plenty I could have chosen but this was my favourite and one that said so much. I would have liked the film to get more love at the Oscars.
