Line(s) of the Day #Thriller

Thriller Michael Jackson

It’s close to midnight and something evil’s lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes

Taken from the astonishingly successful song Thriller by Michael Jackson, from the album of the same name (1983), which is still the bestselling album of all time. Later voted the most influential music video of all time, it highlighted the possibilities available in the exciting new medium of the music video.

Film Quizzes – Ireland

I’m off to Dublin for a few days to go to a friend’s wedding. I’ve never been to Ireland before so really looking forward to seeing more of the Emerald Isle. I’ll be making sure I take loads of photographs and seeing the local sites while I’m there. I also thought a themed quiz would be nice. Have you been to Ireland? Are there any other Irish films you really like?

Gr8at: Funny Animal Cartoons

I’ve always been a big fan of funny cartoons and animals so it’s no surprise that I was going to combine the two in a post at some point. And one was never going to be enough. Below are eight animal-themed cartoons that caught my eye. Do you have any pets? Are you a fan of cartoon strips? As always, please feel free to say if you have a favourite of the eight below.

Line(s) of the Day #ThunderRoad

Thunder Road

There were ghosts in the eyes of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
in the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets

Taken from Thunder Road, the opening track of Bruce Springsteen’s breakthrough third album, Born to Run (1975). Although unreleased as a single, it has been regularly performed by ‘The Boss’ on live performances, and is widely considered one of his finest songs.

Line(s) of the Day #SiegfriedSassoon

Siegfried Sassoon

Soldiers are citizens of death’s grey land,
Drawing no dividend from time’s to-morrows.
In the great hour of destiny they stand,
Each with his feuds, and jealousies, and sorrows.
Soldiers are sworn to action; they must win
Some flaming, fatal climax with their lives.
Soldiers are dreamers; when the guns begin
They think of firelit homes, clean beds and wives.

Film Quizzes: Archaeology

It was a pleasure to meet up with Anna from Film Grimoire who is down from Melbourne. I’ve long been a big fan of her site and in person she was just as I expected her. It was a delightful few hours that just flew by. When I met up with Abbi from Abbi Obiston I started a tradition of creating a specially dedicated quiz, in her case a South African quiz due to her native roots. I’ve already done an Australian-themed quiz, so I thought I’d do something related to one of the many topics we discussed: archaeology. How many will you get? Have you tales of when you met up with any bloggers?
