It’s been just over a month since I posted about my second book, and I can still feel that adrenalin buzz. When you can see people around the world buy copies and give lovely feedback it makes all the many drafts worth it. For the writers among you, please keep at it because it is worth it. For those interested the link is below, with availability in both Kindle and paperback form.

Gr8at: Famous Songs that Charted Badly in the UK
It’s easy to think that great songs must have topped the charts (or at least like in my last Gr8at post), come pretty close. But whether through lack of promotion, more people buying the album, the band not being well known enough at the time or for any other number of reasons, some singles have had mediocre UK chart placings. Which of the following most surprised you? Do you have a favourite?
Line(s) of the Day Oxymoron Museum
I just love cartoons, especially when they’re as funny and clever as this one. And if this makes you laugh, I know these dessert island and dog bar cartoons definitely will too.
Line(s) of the Day #Friends
Ross: I’ve seen her at work, but I always figured, ah-huh? But, uh, I made her dinner. We had a great time. And we’re going out again tomorrow.
Rachel: Well maybe she and her friends are just having a contest to see who can bring home the biggest geek.
Ross: Fine by me; hope she wins.
David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston in Friends (1993 – 2003), one of the all-time great sitcoms. I’m a huge fan of Joey, Chandler, Monica, Pheobe and of course, Ross and Rachel. You can find another great joke from the New-York set show here and here.
Gr8at: Best Songs to Fall One Place Short of UK Number 1
This post was partly inspired by the release of romcom Last Christmas (which features the many musical talents of George Michael), and the fact that I’ve been listening to a lot of music recently. Enjoy!
Line(s) of the Day #SevenNationArmy
I’m gonna fight them all
A seven nation army couldn’t hold me back
The opening lines of Seven Nation Army, the lead single from The White Stripes’ fourth sutio album Elephant (2003) And a serious shout for having the best bassline ever.
Gr8at: #JasonMendoza
Everyone will have their favourite character from The Good Place (2016-), a show set in the afterlife and more shocks and twists than you could ever begin to imagine. Mine is the rather dim-witted Jason Mendoza (Manny Jacinto), the failed DJ (or rather “pre-successful”) with an unflinching loyalty to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Things to See: #ImpracticalJokers
I’ve been a fan of Impractical Jokers since I started watching the show a few years ago. The idea of four friends playing good-natured pranks on unsuspecting people is fun, but the real twist is making the group the target of the jokes. And there’s been quite an array of jokes in the eighth season so far, with a ninth series booked, and a film in the works.
Line(s) of the Day #TheGoldfinch
“A great sorrow, and one that I am only beginning to understand: we don’t get to choose our own hearts. We can’t make ourselves want what’s good for us or what’s good for other people. We don’t get to choose the people we are.”
As said by the highly reflective Theodore Decker in The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt (2013). The Pulitzer Prize winning novel tells of a 13 year’s old struggle to recover after a tragic incident, and his long-running connection with a painting by Carel Fabritius. You can find my review of The Secret History, Tartt’s debut novel here.
Photography: Happy Halloween
It’s my Poker nickname and he comes from my favourite video game so I just had to dress as Scorpion. Happy Halloween everyone.
