Photography: Wara Art Festival
I noticed these online and just had to share them. These are from the Wara Art Festival in Japan, where leftover rice straw (known as wara) are used to make the giant sculptures exhibited at Uwasekigata Park.

Nothin’ lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it’s hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain
Taken from the song November Rain from Californian band Guns n’ Roses from their third studio album Use Your Illusion I (1991). Known as the “most dangerous band in the world”, they had a string of hit singles at the end of the 80s and early 90s, including Welcome to the Jungle.

But even better than the money was the knowledge that I now knew why I had come to L.A. I knew why I had withstood Reardon’s temper tantrums, his contant insults, the degrading cocktail-waitress uniforms, the sleazy, ass-grabby guys.
I wanted a big life, a grand adventure, and no one was going to hand it to me. I wasn’t born with a way to get it, like my brothers. I was waiting for my opportunity, and somehow I knew it would come. Again I thought of Lewis Carroll’s Alice saying, “I can’t go back to yesterday because I was a different person then.” I understood the profound simplicity of that statement – because after tonight I knew I could never, ever go back.
Molly’s Game (2014), based upon the adventures of Molly Bloom, who ran poker games worth millions for some of the world’s wealthiest men. I’ve also quoted the film adapation here and some useful poker quotes here.

“Between life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices… Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets?”
Written by Matt Haig, The Midnight Library (2020) tells of a magical library where Nora Seed is able to see out different versions of her life had she made different decisions.

Another example of just how wonderful nature is.

Once again, the brilliance of Dilbert.

“The name’s Bond… James Bond.”
Farewell to Sir Sean Connery (1930 – 2020), who has passed at the age of 90. Knighted in 2000 and an Oscar winner in 1988 for his role as Jimmy Malone in The Untouchables, Connery had a long and successful career which included leading roles in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Highlander, The Hunt for Red October and The Rock. But it’s as 007 as the proud Scot will always be best remembered, being the first, and to many the definitive, James Bond.
