Reviews and other Features: Jurassic World

Jurassic World film poster

And so, 22 years after we were first invited into the world of Jurassic Park, we are back peering into both the past and the future of dinosaurs. The question facing the filmmakers was how to recreate the excitement we all experienced when we first saw Tyrannosaurus Rex and co for the first time.

Line(s) of the Day #Watchmen

Watchmen 1986 design cover

Once you realise what a joke everything is, being the Comedian is the only thing that makes sense.

As said by the cynical Comedian in the astonishing graphic novel Watchmen, written by Alan Moore and drawn by Peter Gibbons. It was later made into the successful film of the same name in 2006.

Awards/Notifications: 1,000 followers!

Over the weekend so far I noticed I passed 1,000 followers. I just wanted to post a quick note to thank you for all your views, likes and comments. You have such great blogs yourselves, and one of the great joys I’ve had since starting nearly two years ago is discovering just how great the blogging community is. You guys really help make the site what it is. Have a wonderful weekend.

Line(s) of the Day #TheMatrix

Morpheus The Matrix

What is real? How do you define ‘real’? If you’re talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then ‘real’ is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.

Morpheus (Samuel L Jackson) in the iconic sci-fi action film The Matrix (1999), famous for “bullet time” and its view of a simulated reality.

Line(s) of the Day #Fargo

Fargo film Marge

So that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money. There’s more to life than a little money, you know. Don’t cha know that? And here ya are, and it’s a beautiful day. Well. I just don’t understand it.

Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) in one of the Coen Brothers’ most popular films, Fargo (1996).  The seven Oscar nominations the dark comedy received included two wins, for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress for McDormand.

Film Quizzes: South Africa

It was my absolute pleasure to meet WordPress readers Abbi and her husband Paul for drinks and blog-related chat. Those familiar with Abbi’s blog will know her as funny, entertaining and engaging, and in person she was no different. A very fun few hours. She’s even promised to bring some of her heavenly-sounding mint choc-chip cookies next time. In tribute to meeting my first blogger, I am doing a quiz on films set in South Africa, Abbi’s birthplace and home until she moved to London over 10 years ago. Feel free to suggest any other films set in South Africa that have captured your attention. A special shout-out to South Africans and fab WordPressers Natasha and Nadine too.
