With a reminder for those interested in participating in my Foreign Favourites series included, I’ve decided to do a quiz highlighting some of the phenomenal films outside of the English language. The six films below are shining examples of Germany’s sense of creativity, culture and history. See how many of the ausgezeichnet (excellent) films below you recognise.
Answers below
1. M (1931)
2. Das Boot (1981)
3. Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run) (1998)
4. Goodbye, Lenin! (2003)
5. Der Untergang (Downfall) (2004)
6. Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) (2006)
Oops, not going to embarrass myself by mentioning my score this time! 🙂 Ha! I’m still thinking about what to review for your foreign favourites series…
Look forward to it. I’m going to try and start mine this weekend.
1 and 3.
There are some great ones to see. Das Boot is a masterpiece. I wouldn’t mind seeing Lola Rennt again. Not seen it since studying German.
I know all!!!
😉
Well done 🙂
I got five out of the six; I didn’t know number four. I love “Run Lola Run” and I thought “Downfall” was an excellent movie. The last trip I took was to Berlin, Germany. I had a great time there.
Run Lola Run is so creative and energetic. I really recommend Goodbye, Lenin! too. Daniel Bruhl is a superb actor, as he was in Rush 🙂
4/6. Looking forward to reviewing The Lives of Others for the series 🙂
It’s a magnificent film. Can’t wait to see your review. Shame it was the same year as Pan’s Labyrinth 😦
I’m really sorry but I think I’m going to have to switch. My copy of the lives of others has vanished. Do you mind if I do Lady Vengeance?
I’m really sorry Abbi. Laura O decided on that film yesterday and I added her to the list. Is there another one you can do?
Sure. I’ll get back to you.
I’ll go back to The Lives of Others. It must be here somewhere.
Ok, sure
I saw M last week. Totally blew my mind!
I know. I’m trying to think of a more thought-provoking film.
I’m writing it up now and will post in the next couple of days. I’m not usually one to gush but I’m finding it very hard to find fault with. I only wish I’d seen it sooner.
I wish more people would see it. Have you seen any other Peter Lorre films?
Only The Maltese Falcon and Casablance, about a hundred years ago and Arsenic and Old Lace which is one of my all time favourites. Any recommendations?
Only those and Three Strangers which had an intriguing premise and wasn’t a bad film.
Goose egg. Lol. Just tells you how many more foreign films I need to see!
No worries. It seems pretty much everyone has seen your film so I’m the one who’s way behind.

I love this series of yours. I knew most all of them.
Some incredible films in there. And as your review shows, plenty more can be added.
