We both know what they say about us
But they don’t stand a chance because
When I’m with you, when I’m with you
I’m standing with an army
Taken from the song Army by Ellie Goulding, from her third studio album Delirium (2015). Though not as successful in the charts as her previous efforts, the single is an affectionate tribute to best friends and the affect they have on us.You can also find another example of her songs here.
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS SONG AND HOW MANY TIMES I’VE LISTENED TO DELIRIUM?? BECAUSE IT’S ENOUGH OF AN OBSESSION WITH ELLIE TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS AND SCREAM AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
It’s wonderful isn’t it? So great to meet other fans of it. What are your other favourite songs off the album?
All of them? I really love Codes, and Scream it Out. But seriously, they’re all my top favorites. My brother doesn’t like how happy and pop this one is compared to Halcyon but I think they go perfectly together- moody + cheer, yin + yang
Funny. I’ve always seen her as pop and wouldn’t want her any other way. Nice choices. I quoted Guns and Horses before, but Anything Could Happen is probably my favourite.
Anything Could Happen is a beaten horse for me now, I’m afraid. Stupid American radio
Oh no. That’s not happened here. I’m glad she’s so popular in the States though, seeing the silver lining.
The sorry thing about American radio is they play the “hits” until they lose their meaning. It’s repetitive. And narrow, in my opinion, because some of the best songs on record never make it to radio. Ed Sheeran, for example (my favorite artist on the entire planet). You’ll hear A Team or Thinking Out Loud all day long and not much else. The UK is awesome enough to play just about anything of his, celebrating the artist rather than just a song or two. And then the whole stupid US industry wants to make it to where you’re only big if you make it to radio. It’s screwed up. I stick to buying records and listening until they break, then buying them again.
Sing is awesome. As is Drunk. And that one with Rudimental is incredible.
Bloodstream. Oh I know every single song, even ones he’s written for other artists. I’m kind of a fanatic ๐
The Rudimental one, Lay It All on Me, is probably what you’re thinking of. I said Bloodstream because they remixed it on the video
I did mean the Bloodstream one. It really gets me in the mood for writing. Really gets me in that frame of mind. The other one is cool too. I forgot about the other one!
Our minds are freakishly in sync
Great minds and all that ๐
I absolutely LOVE this song! I still listen to it on loop. There are so many songs about break ups and people falling in love but very few songs that I know of that are about the love we have for our friends. Songs that are about how much they mean to us, our appreciation for them.
I love Ellie Goulding’s voice! (Got a minor girl crush on her ๐) Army is a really beautiful song!
The only major one I can think of is the one in the Friends opening credits. There really aren’t many. I’m sure you’re not the only one with a girl crush. She’s really pretty and the archetypal girl next door type.
‘I’ll be there for you’ is definitely one of the best songs about friendship. I love that song too! Great now I’m going to go and listen to that on loop and it’s going to be stuck in my head for days!๐
Happy to help haha
Just saw her for the first time on Graham Norton recently. She’s really good!
She’s always had a really soft voice. It stood out even from her first song Starry Eyed. if you like infectious pop songs you should check it out.
I will be sure to!
Super song. I like both voice and songs of Ellie Goulding.
Just listen to the song Army, to be in tune with your post.
Have a wonderful evening and a new exceptional week, Alex! โค ๐
I’m so happy you did. It’s a lovely song and really does put a smile on your face. The same to you too ๐
What a gorgeous song!! I did not know it till now. Lovely! ๐
I’m so glad you like it. It’s one of those it’s easy to listen to a few times in a row.
I agree ๐
I don’t listen to contemporary music, usually I like a song that comes on the radio but have no idea who sang it. I’ve been hearing of her name for some time, I should check out this song out ๐
It’d be a nice one to start off with. Especially if you have someone in mind to think of when she start singing about friendship.
Aww, I had this song on a loop a while back. Reminds me of my own little army ๐ Great song!
It’s been a wonderful surprise to find it has been so popular on here.
Absolutely love this song!! ๐
I’m so happy to find that so many others do. I had no idea it would be so popular here.
