So that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money. There’s more to life than a little money, you know. Don’t cha know that? And here ya are, and it’s a beautiful day. Well. I just don’t understand it.
Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) in one of the Coen Brothers’ most popular films, Fargo (1996). ย The seven Oscar nominations the dark comedy received included two wins, for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress for McDormand.
Oh, yah. Dat’s a good one, der, yah.
I know, right! That accent is so unusual. I wonder if she used it off set. I should try and see the TV show sometime.
The first season of the show was incredible. Martin Freeman NAILED the accent. But Bill Bob Thorton? Evil incarnate. Best bad guy to come along on TV in years.
In that case I really do need to see it. I’ve seen Freeman in The Office and he had a fascinating family background in Who do you think you are. I’m going to make time to see Sherlock.
You have to see Sherlock.
I’ve started to. It’s next on the list after Buffy. I’m on series 3 of that.
Season 2 and 3 of Buddy were the best!
Good call! What a witty and strange club the Coen Bros. and Frances are. I wish I were a part of their inner circle.
That would be something. It is among your favourite films from them?
Well, no, actually. I like Raising AZ and Big Lebowski and Barton Fink and True Grit and No Country for Old Men and Inside Llewyn Davis and O Brother more.
No Country for Old Men is probably mine. I actually saw The Goonies again recently. Two very different type of financially motivated adventures!
I love how drole this movie is. My husband and I still speak of really annoying people as being “one for the wood chipper”.
You may have seen the Oscars when Frances McDormand accepted and thanked Joel Coen for “making a woman out of” her.
I didn’t, no. I have heard it referenced though. That’s so neat you reference it. William H. Macy really has been in some great films, hasn’t he?
One of my absolute favourite films. It bears repeated viewing.
And it’s not based on a true story. They had us tricked from the start!
Marge is full of wisdom! Love this quote!
Do you remember the Top 10 Females Blogathon? No one took her off ๐
Love this quote, love the way she says “and for what? For a little bit of money”.
It sums up the film so well ๐
Perfectly.
Also check out Fargo season 2. Ted Sansom crushing it.
