The first art exhibition I remember going to was of Joseph Mallord William Turner, and it’s no surprise he’s long been one of my favourite artists. Gifted with oil, watercolour, etching or even a simple draft , Turner was a huge success in his lifetime and his popularity has never come close to fading. Inspired by going to the Turner and the Sea exhibition at the national Maritime Museum (and expect more on that soon), I’ve decided it’s time for a Gr8at on one of Britain’s greatest ever painters.
those are amazing paintings. no wonder you like him 🙂
Him, Cezanne and Bellows are my joint fave. Don’t make me choose ha.
haha :). Well you have great taste in artists 🙂
beautiful!!
Do you have a favourite?
The Fighting Temeraire (1838) .. I love Sea 🙂
All of them are amazing. I like Fisherman at Sea the most. The waves, the sun peaking through the clouds, the different shades of grey. All so brilliant.
That’s my favourite one too. His first oil painting for the Academy. He was 21!
Wow. I just got a stab of jealously.
It’s an incredible painting dude. I was almost hypnotised by it.
Impressive collection of paintings that you selected, Alex. I also have such a collection of works of the artist William Turner

Very nice collection. Great choice for the last painting too 🙂
Really beautiful!
I’m glad he was so prolific
When I spent a semester in England, my history class actually studied The Fighting Temeraire. Beautiful, symbolic piece during a fascinating point in history. Nice to see some other awesome paintings from Turner, too!
It really is. It was also voted the most popular painting in Britain nearly 10 years ago http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today/vote/greatestpainting/winner.shtml
Wonderful selection of paintings. Have you seen Mike Leigh’s film Turner? It’s one of my favourite films of the year.
It was coming out just as I was heading out on holiday. I can’t wait to see it. I hope you like this post too https://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2014/02/25/things-to-see-turner-and-the-sea/
These are just incredible Alex. I could learn a lot by viewing this artist. Thank you for sharing him with me!
