Ignatius T. Reilly and his mother Irene, in John Kennedy Toole’s quirky masterpiece A Confederacy of Dunces (1980), published 11 years after the author’s death. In 1981 the book earned¬†Toole a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
