Jurassic World

Simon Masrani: You created a monster!
Henry Wu: Monster is a relative term. To a canary, a cat is a monster. We’re just used to being the cat.

Irfan Khan and B.D. Wong in the sci-fi adventure film Jurrasic World (2015), the fourth and latest film in the Jurassic Park franchise. You can see my largely positive thoughts on the dinosuar-fuelled fantasy in my review here.

Dreams feel real while we’re in them. It’s only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.

Dominic Cobb (Leonardo Di Caprio) in the brilliantly thought-provoking science fiction heist film Inception (2010). Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film won four Academy Awards, raked in over $820 million and is considered a hugely imaginative modern masterpiece. I’m a huge fan of the English writer/director. You can also find other films of his on my blog, with The Dark Knight, Memento and The Prestige.

Morpheus The Matrix

What is real? How do you define ‘real’? If you’re talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then ‘real’ is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.

Morpheus (Samuel L Jackson) in the iconic sci-fi action film The Matrix (1999), famous for “bullet time” and its view of a simulated reality.

Bladerunner

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time… like tears in rain… Time to die.

Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) in Bladerunner (1982)
