I’ve been told I’m as good as whistling as I am singing. Which I’ve decided to take as a compliment and use it as inspiration for a post about some of the best whistling songs around. Featuring more one hit wonders than you might think (more here), please enjoy my eight favourite whistling songs that just beg you to join in. Do you have a favourite? Any others that you like?
The storm is breaking or so it seems
We’re too young to reason, too grown up to dream
Taken from the song Slave to Love by Bryan Ferry, from his UK chart-topper solo album Boys and Girls (1985). I’m a big fan of his elegant, velvety smooth voice, especially with his work on Roxy Music. Jealous Guy and More than This are my personal favourites.
Has there been a song that you were familiar with and then heard another artist’s take on it and been completely blown away? Including the times you actually liked the initial release? I thought I’d choose my favourites and see what you thought. Are you in agreement with many of the songs? Which ones would you add? As always your comments and suggestions are more than encouraged.
I was dreaming of the past
and my heart was beating fast
I began to lose control
I began to lose control.
I didn’t mean to hurt you
I’m sorry that I made you cry
Oh my I didn’t want to hurt you
I’m just a jealous guy.
The song ‘Jealous Guy’ was originally recorded by John Lennon in 1971, but after Lennon’s tragic death in 1980, Roxy Music produced a cover of the song in tribute.
