Major General Martin J. Hollister (Eddie Albert) in the Columbo episode Dead Weight (1971). I’m a huge fan of the dishevelled detective, it’s clever format and the cat and mouse style interactions between the resilient sleuth and the different murderers (just like above). Indeed, I wrote a review of the show here. Without spoilers, feel free to share your favourite episodes. Mine is Try and Catch Me, starring Ruth Gordon as an Agatha Christie style writer, followed by The Most Dangerous Match, with Laurence Harvey as a tortured chess maestro.
