Line(s) of the Day #ThereThere

Radiohead There There

In pitch dark
I go walking in your landscape
Broken branches
Trip me as I speak

The opening lines from the song There There by the remarkable English group Radiohead, from their sixth studio album Hail to the Thief (2003). I’m a big fan, including Climbing up the Walls.

Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
I’ve been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man’s soul to waste

Taken from the song Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones, from their acclaimed studio album Beggar’s Banquet (1968). I just had to add in another post for the English rock band as I saw them live earlier this year, to add to the songs of Gimme Shelter, Paint it Black and Ruby Tuesday

Line(s) of the Day #MadWorld

Tears for Fears Mad World

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head, I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

The opening lines of the song Mad World by Bath duo Tears For Fears, from their debut album The Hurting (1983). As well as being a big hit for the group, a more sombre version of the song became an unlikely non-festive Christmas number one and won an Ivor Novellor award for songwriting, the second for the British band. I also quoted another of their delightful songs here and have tickets to see them live next year.

Line(s) of the Day #Shiver

Shiver - Coldplay

So I look in your direction
But you pay me no attention, do you
I know you don’t listen to me
‘Cause you say you see straight through me, don’t you

The opening lines of the song Shiver by Coldplay. From the English band’s debut album Parachutes (2000), it was the follow up to the hugely successful Yellow.  Here’s a photo of when I saw them live, where they closed with this song.

Line(s) of the Day #EverybodysChanging

Keane

So little time.
Try to understand that I’m
Trying to make a move just to stay in the game

Taken from the song Everybody’s Changing by English band Keane, from their debut album Hope’s and Fears (2004).  Known for using the piano as a lead instrument, the group achieved particular success with their first three albums.
