Along with Tom Hanks and Leonardo di Caprio (parts 1 and 2), Denzel Washington has long been one of my favourite actors. The two-time Oscar winner has been making quality films since the 1980s and at 62, is as prolific as ever. The New York star will probably lose out to Casey Affleck in the Best Actor nomination at the Academy Awards tonight, but he really was astonishing in Fences. As good a performance as you will see (and kudos to Viola Davis who is incredible too). How many of the films below can you work out?
She may have been described as “overrated” by the 45th President of the USA Donald Trump recently, but Meryl Streep has long been considered one of the greatest actors ever. I haven’t done an actor-themed quiz for a while so thought why not do one for of the most versatile and decorated stars in the industry, who has been nominated 19 times for an Oscar, with 3 wins. How many of the films below do you recognise? Do you have a favourite?
Who is Keyser Soze? He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Kobayashi tell it, anybody could have worked for Soze. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist. And like that, poof. He’s gone.
Verbal Klint (Kevin Spacey) in the hugely thrilling The Usual Suspects (1995). Winner of an Academy Award for Spacey as well as for Best Original Screenplay, it features one of cinema’s most famous endings.
With the 87th annual Academy Awards, there’s no way I couldn’t do a quiz to celebrate. I just had to top last year’s themed quiz. And so today’s quiz isn’t just a regular six films, but a bonus special with a film each from the past seven decades. Any predictions for this year? Any notable omissions from any of the lists? As always feel free to share any thoughts or comments under the answers below.
It’s Oscar time! Do you have any predictions? Which films do you want to do well? As the 86th Academy Awards takes place tonight, here’s a quiz celebrating winners from the six previous decades. A previously non-existent High-6 if you can get them all.
