John Bernthal and Will Smith in the biopic King Richard (2021), which tells of the rise of Richard Williams’ tennis superstars daughters Venus and Serena. It was nominated for 6 Oscars, including a Best Actor win for Will Smith.

For sure. One of the better recent sporting biopics. A lot you can take from it. How much of the film were you aware of beforehand?
Some. Not a great interest. My father was the promoter for the Australian open in the late 70’s and 80’s. He was a manager for female tennis players, and has been awarded a gong here for his services to women’s and community sports… actually, as I write this, probably a lot.
