Oscar Wilde needs no introduction, of course. The Irish writer was quite simply, one of the funniest people to have ever lived. One of the all-time great wits. Below are eight of my favourites quotes. How many do you recognise? Do you have a favourite?
I always pass on good advice. It is the only thing to do with it. It is never of any use to oneself.
She is a peacock in everything but beauty
Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.
True friends stab you in the front.
Hear no evil, speak no evil, and you’ll never be invited to a party.
There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about
Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast.
Everything in moderation, including moderation
I think I’d go for the happiness one – if I must choose
Ha! I’ll have a glass of Merlot or Hoegarden to that ๐
i love these – so brilliant and funny
He was just so funny and insightful. I’ll be doing another post of his focusing on his more profound quotes soon.
Ah. I love Oscar Wilde! He is so quotable. This is a great selection. โAnyone who lives within their means, lacks imagination,โ is one of my favorites. ๐
That was in the original draft. But I just had to include the peacock quote. It’s one of my favourite ever insults.
Haha! Yes, itโs a good one!
I like ’em all!! ๐
By the way, Alex, as you know am hosting a Blogathon, and I guess you are too busy to do a long post. But if you like, you can either enter this post, or better still, do another blog-post, within the next 11 days, like this, with just some good quotes, of somebody you admire born in October (preferably a film personality). I shall happily accept.
Thanks!!
Nuwan Sen
How very considerate of you. I would be too busy to write a review, but yes, a set of quotes by a person born in October would be nice. I won’t use this one, but how about John Lennon? He was born in October 11.
That would be lovely!! Am a great Beatles fan, and John Lennon is my favourite!!! He was born on the 9th by the way!! ๐
Do I send it through an email or write it here and you repost it?
Ah!! Just do the post, on your Blog, and mention it is for the Blogathon with a link to my Blogathon post, and add one (or more) of the banners I’ve made on your post.
Then just send me the link, as comment, on any post!!
Cheers!! ๐
Done!
Nice selection of quotes. Some of these are, of course, on a morbid humour side. I may be in the minority, but I like the quote “There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about”. I just find it witty.
It’s very witty and very true. He was just a genius. I have a few other posts lined up, but I will be soon be posting about his more serious quotes, which are just as perceptive.
I cannot wait. I hope you include the one about a dreamer finding his way by moonlight, this is one of my very favourite.
He truly is one of the best. Such clever wit.
Heโs so up there. He was just filled with genius. Iโm still discovering new ones all the time.
