Where there is heroism there will always be hope.
Sir Winston Churchill (John Lithgow) in the historical Netflix drama The Crown (2016 – ). With a third series currently in production, the biographical show covers the life of Queen Elizabeth, stretching back to 1947. You can find mre examples of the inspirational wisdom from the great man here and here.
I’m really enjoying this series!
It’s wonderful. Are you up to date? Which is your favourite episode?
Yes. I like Margaret’s story line. More the affair with Townsend than with Armstrong Jones. I’ll be interested to see it in more modern times – the stuff I was alive for!
Such a sad storyline. The episode with Churchill and the painting was probably my favourite. I really liked the one with Jackie and John F too.
Oh yes! I forgot about the painting. Lithgow plays an amazing Churchill! I felt bad for Liz in the Kennedy episode. Jackie must have made everyone feel stodgy!
The show’s creator also wrote Frost/Nixon and Rush, which are all about rivalries and have pivotal scenes when there’s only two of them on screen. I’m glad he’s included that same essence in the show. Amazing to think about the painting. The real queen watches it too. Can you imagine her DVD commentary!
Right? I’d love to be a fly on the wall!
I love this series. Truly compelling as it shines a light on people who are so well known but equally private.
I really enjoyed it. Funny to think of the queen watching it. The episodes on Churchill and the painting was my favourite.
Yes, I wonder what she thinks of it.
I think she liked them all except for the episode where the focus was on Prince Charles and him struggling at Gordonstoun. She even made it known through the press she was displeased by it.
Thanks for the info.
