I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore.
The definitive and oft-quoted line from the anarchistic speech by Howard Beale (Peter Finch) in Network (1976). Set in the fictional UBS network, the film tells how a unstable newsreader’s explosive ramblings are exploited for profits and ratings. The film won four Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Finch. I was also lucky enough to see a fantastic recent adaptation in the National Theatre with Bryan Cranston in the lead role.
That was a classic line that has blended into American society. Amazing how movies can leave an imprint on the real world.
The idea of getting mad before figuring out what to do with that rage is certainly a powerful line of thinking. Network is certainly one of the most cynical movies around. Pretty biting commentary.
Exactly
Excellent film. The stage adaptation sounds awesome! Bryan Cranston would be the perfect fit for that part! Lucky you!
He was incredible. He has quite the range. I remember him in Seinfeld and in Malcolm in the Middle and he was brilliant. A joy to see him highlight his wider range in more dramatic roles in both TV and film.
Have you seen Breaking Bad? I haven’t gotten to it yet. But it’s high on my list!

Great movie.
How far would most networks go for higher ratings? It’s a question Nightcrawler poses really well too.
Seems a lot of new killing and horror shows showing up, I’m not a fan. I like mysteries, but on a Masterpiece Theater level : ))
Things go in cycles a lot of the time. I do miss quality mainstream comedy.
Definitely
God, I know the feeling! Great quote. Iconic.
It was great we were able to see it.
Yeah, it was masterfully done. Thanks for letting me tag along
This film plays well to this day. Brilliant performances from everyone!
An incredible cast. William Holden is one of my favourite actors.
