Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I’m getting old, and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in
I’m getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin
Taken from the song Somewhere Only We know by East Sussex band Keane, from their debut studio album Hopes and Fears (2004). Originally a UK top 3 hit, it was later covered by Lily Allen, who topped the charts in 2014. I also really recommend Everybody’s Changing, from the band’s same album.
Got it in my head from the minute I read the post title!
Ha! Along with Everybody’s Changing and a few others of theirs, impossible not to hum along to. Or not hit repeat when the song finishes 🙂
That was a good song, even though L.A version was definitely not for me, ha ha. I might put that song on now 🙂
I think it was released during Christmas, as part of a big advertising campaign with John Lewis which would have helped. I prefer the original too. I was listening to them last night. Nice to see how popular they are here too.
I must say, those Christmas hits, especially the ones that are just recycled songs of somebody else, are like fake celebrities.
It’s been a years since someone wrote a great Christmas hit. Still at least we’re past the X Faxtor covers.
You do a nice job of keeping your blog fresh.
That’s very kind. With some help from a fellow blogger, Tosha, there was a recent redesign too.
I need to do that. Now, Tosha is redesigning blogs. lol What can’t see do?
Have a good one. Keep up the good work.
Not much 🙂
Good tune but his voice was/is too weedy for me 😀
The songs are really senstitive so I’m ok with it. Very different to what you normally hear. But yeah, it won’t be for everyone. Whose voice do you really like?
Chris Daughtry,Paul Rodgers, Jack Savaretti, Rag and Bone man.. there’s a lot I do like!
Some great shouts. Nice mix. Human is my favourite Rag n’ Bone Man song by some distance, great he could sing it at The Brits. Life in Her Yet is just gorgeous. I’d add Elvis, Frank, George Michael and Jeff Buckley.
Can’t disagree with those, except Elvis…meh I’m afraid 🙂

🤣🤣🤣
Love this album. Sadly I don’t think that they ever topped it.
Yeah, the first album is my favourite. So many gems on there, including Bedshaped and Your Eyes Open. The second one was more more solid than spectacular, except for Is it Any Wonder. That was superb.
Always loved that song!
It’s a lovely song for sure. You don’t hear much like it. Not a guitar to be seen (or heard).
Ooooh I LOVE this song and that’s some beautiful lyrics!
It’s great to see how popular they are 🙂 I remember being blown away when they came to prominince.
The blog looks good! I didn’t know this song. I liked both Keane’s version & Lilly Allen’s.
Happy you found it and like what I’m doing 😃
I love this song!! Am already humming it!! 😀
They really do melody well. I really do recommend Everybody’s Changing And Is it Any Wonder?
How funny. I had picked out Everybody’s Changing for my blog post on the same day, but changed it when I saw your Keane post. Oh and I’ll second Casey and Andrew. You definitely keep your blog fresh, like your mouth. Haha
I am listening to it since 2004, if you believe it. UK radio – I don’t even remember what channel, every – I suppose – was pretty much in love with it at the time, wasn’t it? A great song, it is still an unbeatable classic for me. I remember I was listening to it and to Coldplay’s Fix You on and off.
I love this song. It has a really emotional resonance.
