The Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics finishes today, after 16 drama-fuelled days. As with any major sporting event, there have been all stories. Records have been obliterated, heroes have appeared, legends created and dreams fulfilled. But there’s also been all kinds of disappointment on display too as years of hard work fall away in an instant. Inspired by a blog post on Vinnie H, below are 12 films on the Summer and Winter Olympics. Some are based on a true story, others entirely fictional. Can you work them out?

Chariots of Fire, Cool Runnings, Prefontaine, Miracle, Unbroken and I, Tonya are all true stories … the others I’m not sure about. Well except Blades of Glory!!! NOT a true story! Lol!!!
Can you imagine if it was? Haha. I wonder what sport ix next for the Hollywood treatment. Curling? Skeleton?
Don’t laugh…. I love curling! It’s so soothing to watch, almost hypnotic!
No jokes, I started to warm to it too. No other sport like it. Disappointed no UK medal in the end though. Small margins.
Cool quiz, Chariots, Cool Runnings, Munich, Unbroken, Eddie, I Tonya, all based on true stories. (Not sure about the others 🙂 )
Prefontaine, Miracle and Foxcatcher too. Sounds like you recognised a lot of the films.
Ta, hadn’t heard of them.
I was happy to inspire this quiz, Alex. I got 8/12.
Solid stuff Vinnie. Which is the one you most enjoyed watching?
Probably Cool Runnings, I love that movie.
Irv: It’s a fair question. It’s quite simple, really. I had to win. You see, Derice, I had made winning my whole life, and when you make winning your whole life, you have to keep winning, no matter what. Understand?
Derice Bannock: No, I don’t understand. You won two gold medals, you had it all.
Irv: Derice, a gold medal is a wonderful thing. But if you’re not enough without it, you’ll never be enough with it.
I got numbers 1 and 11 🙂
You so need to see Cool Runnings!
I only recognizes 3 from the pictures. I know I Tonya is based om a true dtory. Do I still get a participation award? I hear they’re easy to come by. I’d like mine in chocolate please. 🤓
Great quiz Alex.
They should make trophies out of chocolate. That way you could still pose with the trophy and then eat it.
Yeah, thar might work for most people but I’d eat it before the photographer had the chance to say Godiva
Cool Runnings – yes! Just seeing John Candy’s photo here makes me smile 🙂
He had such warmth on screen. Such a great actor. Can’t forget his scene in Home Alone either.
5/12. Sports movies are not my strength I guess. A few here I had not heard of though I did guess Chariots of Fire, Cool Runnings, Blades of Glory, Foxcatcher and I, Tonya
Don’t worry Chris. Plenty of other quizzes on here I’m sure you’ll like. You’re more than welcome to suggest any too.
11/12 – missed personal best.
great quiz as always Alex!
You really know your sports movies. Super impressive. The only one you didn’t know was one I didn’t know before I set the quiz. You a big sports fan at all?
Not at all. Just a movie fan
7/12, could’ve been 8 but couldn’t recall Foxcatcher. Great quiz. Only seen 7 of the films too.
Such a wide array of stories. Some tragedy within the uplifting, inspiring ones for sure. Thanks for the kind words.
YAY! I got 2. LOL
Tough quiz. Sports movies are a mixed bunch.
