Line(s) of the Day #FreaksandGeeks

Freaks and Geeks beers and weirs

All my new friends think I’m some goody two shoes and all my old friends think i’m throwing my life away.  What the hell am I supposed to do?

Lindsay Weir (Linda Cardellini) in the short-lived but highly acclaimed high school comedy drama series Freaks and Geeks (1999 – 2000). Relating to the show’s main character, the quote sums up the stuggles she faces trying to fit in, a regular theme.  You can find out more detail about the episode the line is taken from, and more context of the show overall, here.

    • It was filmed in 1999 but set in 1980, so I’m guessing a lot was used from the creator’s own childhood. You’ll recognise a lot of the actors. Linda Cardellini, James Franco, Jason Segal, Seth Rogan, Martin Starr, Roshida Jones…

  1. Great questions you ask, Alex. Thank you for that! 😊 I watched this almost 2 decades ago (yeah I know, this brunette is dating herself now)! I’m sure all of them made me laugh – the cast are all talented and humorous. I believe everyone can relate to the main character…trying to fit in, in high school. I was extremely insecure, and not only until recent I was able to relate to the angst part of things, but that you will find on my blog …soon enough. What about you? You love all things 80’s don’t you? Oh one last thing, sorry this is so long, Alex 😦 have you ever been to a freaks and geeks festival? 😊

    • Just means you had great taste from the start! You’re totally right about the cast. As well as the list above, you can add Leslie Mann and Jason Schwartzman. No surprise so many have gone onto good things. It sounds like you’ve come a long way 🙂 Oh and 80s for sure. I’ve not been to a Freaks and Geeks festival no. Didn’t even know they existed. How about you?

      • Alex! I’m so sorry, I just saw this response! Please forgive my late reply sir. Thank you for the compliments. I’d like to think I have good taste in some things. Always try to improve myself, not sure how far I’ve come, but I’m always trying – to be better and do better. 😊Leslie Mann – love her! She is so funny! She was so great in 17 Again and The Other Woman. She’s a powerhouse and so much fun. All this 80s talk – I think I’m going to have an 80s movie theme day. 😊Freaks and Geeks festivals exist. I have been. 🙂So, did you dress up for Halloween this year?

      • I hope you do make up for it next year! It’s always fun. A bunny, at a house party. I know I know – not original at all. Don’t worry, I make up for it on a daily basis. 😊The festival was almost a decade ago…magic, wizards, comics, and sci-fi, oh and who could forget that other stuff…game room type items. Both pair very well, if you ask this brunette. 🙂I’m a huge Shia LaBeouf fan! 😍

      • Sounds cute though, which can’t be bad 🙂 I did not recognise Shia at all! And I only saw him in Borg MacEnroe the other week. It sounds like you had a fab time 🙂

      • Hopefully cute isn’t bad. 😊Would have been a better time if accompanied by the man I wish could have been there. Hmm I don’t know that one…I’ll have to check it out. It was a great time, you know opposites attract. 😊

      • I hope so as well, Alex. My plan just might have something to do with the YouTube video you shared with me the other day – the one with Animal lol 😊

    • Not just you. It tends to be top of most polls of shows cancelled too early. And so mny of the actors are still active. Which character makes you laugh most or you associated with you most?
