Heathcliff, it’s me, I’m Cathy
I’ve come home, I’m so cold
Let me in through your window
Just one of many quotable lines from the debut Kate Bush single Wuthering Heights (1978). Taken from her album The Kick Inside (1978), the song was a UK number one for 4 weeks and a smash hit around Europe. You might also be interested to see my favourite quote from the novel, a line from the 1939 film or a reference to the book in An American Werewolf in London.
Possibly my favourite book, that I really need to reread! Last version I read was graphic novel form! Love this song also! ❤
What a great comment. Did you hear the song before you read the book?
I don’t remember! I feel like they were both very close to each other. Possibly the book first! 🤗
🙂 The song was actually played at a wedding I was at recently. And yes, the dance moves from the video were done too.
I have that song on my iTouch. It’s so good and alluring. The book of course is a classic!
It really is a gorgeous piano and wonderful vocal. And it’s great to see such a classic so well represented. I like Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits which is a different kind of lyric entirely.
That too – love Dire Straits as well!
Whuthering Heights is a wonderful novel and I like how you linked it to such a lovely Kate Bush track. That part of the chosen lyrics is a favourite of mine. She certainly has an alluring way of dancing which is oddly captivating.
It would have been easy to choose any lines from the song. But this image just stood out so much. And it drives so much of the novel. And yea. The dancing is fantastically ethereal.
Wonderful song and book. Pat Benatar actually did a cover that you might want to check out.
Thanks, I have it a listen. She does have a very good voice but didn’t have the sensitivity for me. I listened to the Hayley Westenra version too. Great voice but missed all the emotion from the song. Must be a difficult song to cover mind.
I should think so. You should try it though 😜
That would be Wuthering Lows 😛
Haha
Her voice in this song is heavenly and ghostly, at the same time.
Both very appropriate to the song. Not heard a better vocal and can’t imagine I ever will.
It’s otherworldly in the best way. How does she reach those high notes?
In an out of this world way 🙂
Very well said.
Makes me think of my Mum one of her fav artists
That helps explain your love of music 🙂 Your mum has great taste. There’s no one else like Kate Bush around. Imagine writing this at 18!
