After doing a quiz based on World War II films, I had to show that there was more to war on film than those that depict the 1939 – 1945 conflict. Covering various different battles, the films below cover a wide range in tone, style and narrative. How many do you have? Do you have a favourite among them? if you can work out mine, feel free to give yourself an extra point.

Lawrence of Arabia, one if the most captivating movies !
It’s Paths of Glory. Nice try though. I really recommend it if you haven’t seen it.
My score: 9. My number 1 is number 1 on the list, and I think it could be yours
Good score again Derrick. Good effort but it’s Paths of Glory. I love that film. Pretty much flawless.
I got 11 out of 15! I think your favorite is The African Queen.
Good stuff on the scoring Laura. It’s actually Paths of Glory. It’s such a powerful and thought-provoking film. I love that trivia about Bogart and John Huston on the filming of The African Queen. They didn’t get sick like the other cast and crew because they only drank whisky ha.
I got all but #2. All classic films, all fantastic.
I can’t see anyone beating your score. I doubt anyone will get them all. Brilliant result 👍
I’ve watched too many movies, I think. 🙂
Not sure that exists!
I got 9, which I’m happy with given that I don’t watch a lot of war movies. My favorites are: The Manchurian Candidate, The African Queen, and Lawrence of Arabia.😊
That’s not bad at all. Nice set of favourites too.
Thanks for reminding me I need to see Gallipoli. A fun quiz! You have listed a lot of great classics.
I’ve never seen it either. I’ve only seen 12 of them so I do need to see more too.
I got 7. I’ve always loved African Queen. You can’t go wrong with Hepburn and Bogart .
No, you can’t 🙂 Two legends of the screen.
I loved all of these, but the new film Dunkirk is now one of my favorites. A must see on the big screen! – Lola
For sure. And what a soundtrack. I’ve listened to it a few times since. Completely mindblowing.
I got 10. And I must say that the effort you put into these quizzes is fantastic. I always look forward to them.
I’m happy you like them. There’s still so many topics and ideas to cover.
I look forward to more of them.
I got 13 out 15; I missed 2 and 13.
Those were two of the toughest ones. The score for Legends of the Fall is by James Horner. The film is really good but I especially recommend the music.
Thank you; I’ll have to check it out.
11/15. Not too shabby.
Solid score. The films covered neary 90 years.
15/15 – I LOVE war movies 🙂
Pick only one??? that’s tough. I especially love Platoon and Black Hawk Down.
I saw ur answer by accident, PoG is a great one that I need to revisit 🙂
Bravo Rob. That’s very impressive. There were some tough ones in there.
Tough movies is my middle name 😉
Only 7 on this one. I haven’t seen any of the old ones to my shame.
There are some great ones on the list. Hope you get to see them. Especially Paths of Glory.
ah, Jean Gabin, Humphrey Bogart, Omar Sharif, Peter O’Toole… ❤
I know. Some list.
13 out of 15 again. Knew one would be All Quiet on the Western Front but couldn’t bring the title to my mind. La Grande Illusion? I know nothing about it, how would you describe it?
Very high average. I’ve not seen it either, though supposed to be a classic. It certainly sounds interesting. It’s set in a prison camp and tells of the struggle within the soldiers there, who are from very different class backgrounds.
Interesting.
I got 7.
Oh well!
Don’t worry. That’s a pass 😀
