After seeing the superb Dunkirk last week, it got me thinking about what other depictions there had been of World War 2. There are some pretty famous ones I’ve left out, which you’re more than welcome to mention in the comments section. I wanted a wide range that covered different aspects of the war. Fighting on the ground, being under attack under water, aerial warfare, resistance fighters and the struggle within concentration camps among them. See how many you can get. A bonus point if you can guess my favourite among them.

Brilliant stuff Derrick. I think that’s your best score.
By a long chalk 🙂
I knew you had it in you 👍
5 out of 15 And The Bridge on the River Kwai for your favorite?
It is indeed. Well done. A bonus point and a hug coming your way.
Thanks. Those are always nice. I’m pretty pleased with myself. That’s such an obscure thing to know about you. I’m not as happy with my quiz results. Better luck next time hopefully.
Isn’t #9 Schindlers List? 11 is SPR
O I see what happened, there’s just a pic missing. Damn me and my obsessive, editorial eye. Don’t mind me haha
Don’t know why one of the pictures didn’t load. Sorted now.
I loved the pianist but jeez..,Schindler’s List (for real) caused me to have heart palpitations…I had only had them once before when I was pregnant with my daughter so thankfully I knew it wasn’t a heart attack, but my soul just couldn’t handle watching it and knowing it was a true story and the atrocities really happened! Ok, I was gonna say your fav is Casablanca?
Spielberg found it so tough to film he watched Seinfeld in the evenings to lighten his mood and escape the darkness.
I can imagine so!!
And Casablanca is a wonderful shout. It’s a truly magnificent film. But no. My favourite is The Bridge on the River Kwai. I still hum that tune even now. here are others I really like if you’re curious https://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2016/09/04/film-quizzes-my-favourite-film-part-1/
Just looked – I share several of the same likes and will need to add the rest to watch as I never saw The Bridge on River Kwai either so thanks 🙂
I’m confident you’ll love it 😄
Okay I sucked terribly 🙂
Aways next time. Feel free to suggest categories too.
Well, I got 7 of them which is better than I thought I’d do.
Well done. Do you have a favourite among them?
I think if I could only pick one, it would be Casablanca.💁🏻
That would be the case for a lot of people. It’s a much loved movie.
I got an even dozen, Alex! And I have to go see “Dunkirk,” maybe this weekend. Thanks for another great post.
It’s a really powerful film. Doesn’t hide from the brutality of war. And some of the lucklessness within it. And the continued bravery. It will make a worthy addition to the great war films list. And great score Ann!
I got ten! I knew all of them but just couldn’t remember the titles, which was very frustrating! Your favourite? It could be any one of them but I’m going to ‘plump for’ Das Boot.
An incredible film. But it’s The Bridge on the River Kwai for me. Blew my mind when I saw it. It’s in my top 3 films. Here are some others of mine if you’re curious 🙂 https://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2016/09/04/film-quizzes-my-favourite-film-part-1/
I bounced between Kwai and Boot before going for Boot. I thought it would have too easy to go with Kwai! I watched it for the umpteenth time a couple of months ago. Brilliant. Guinness and company never fail to engage me. Have you ever seen the original Das Boot series – best way to see.
I have got it. Just need to find the time to see it. I’ve heard nothing but incredible things.
8 out of 15!
Not too bad. There are some great ones on there.
I got 12! I’m annoyed though. I should’ve gotten 12 O’clock High! Still haven’t seen Run Silent, Run Deep or Downfall. Fun stuff!
Run Silent, Run Deep is one of my dad’s favourites. He loves submarine films. It’s fitting that the two main actors didn’t get on off set as they weren’t friendly on screen either. Wasn’t an easy picture for 12 0′ Clock High. Great film though. Good score Keith 👍
13 out of 15. I’ve never seen number 5, and even though I saw number 14, I couldn’t tell it was “Downfall.”
It isn’t the most well known. Great film though. Impressed you got Twelve O’ Clock High. Superb score all round.
Thank you.
I did terrible at this one! It’s okay, there’s sure to be another quiz down the road for redemption 😉
For sure. It will probably be non-World War 2 war films. So World War 1, Vietnam, Korea etc. That aound better?
I’ll give it a go!
13/15 missed where eagles dare and downfall 😦 especially since ive seen both of them
I was confident you’d get the highest score of anyone here. Impressed with anyone who has seen Run Silent Run Deep and Twelve O’Clock High.
10/15. Not bad. I need to actually see the 5 I missed.
Solid score 🙂
11/15. I didn’t get Stalag 17, Run Silent, Run Deep, Where Eagles Dare and Patton. My favourite movies are Schindler’s List, Life is Beautiful and The Pianist – all dealing with the same issue, but in their own way.
I wanted a nice mix. Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I got 9 (better than I expected). The quiz reminded me that I really need to get around to seeing The Bridge on the River Kwai.
It’s an incredible film. Plenty of competition, but I’d put it as my favourite war film. And that’s even ahead of Paths of Glory. You’ll love it 🙂
I am one of the few people who did not love Paths of Glory. I might need to give that one a second chance at some point.
I really do think it’s incredible. And one of the very few anti-war films. If you do maybe you will change your mind. But we all have films that lots of people like and we don’t for whatever reason.
9… quite a few I still have to see considering that this is Mr O’s favourite genre.
There’s quite a range in tone and style. I’m curious how many he’ll get.
