Yesterday I watched Baby Driver, about a getaway driver who listens to music all the time to drown out his severe tinnitus. It got me thinking about bank robberies conveyed in film. The dangers, carefully planning, adrenalin rush and huge rewards on offer has long appealed to Hollywood. This one might be tougher than usual, but I’m still curious as to how you do. missed the ladykillers and the bank job 🙂
great choice as always Alex!
That’s a superb score. I wasn’t expecting people to do as well in this one. The Ladykillers (original) is a delightful film if you get the chance.
Saw it. Shoulda gotten it
Cool. I would have added it to your next films request.
Still a few months away 😉
Don’t worry. I’ll have it covered 🙂
Im sure!!! 😉
12/15. I generally like these kind of films, but I hardly ever watch them. I guess I started to like them when I saw a bank robbery in Get Away (1994) with Alec Baldwin – I thought that sequence was particularly tense, but then again I was relatively young and didn’t know many movies lol.
Until seeing Baby Driver, I’d never really thought about them. Bank robberies usually get thrown in with heist movies. There’s far more than I realised, as shown by your mention of Get Away. Good score btw.
Well, I got three 🙂
It’s a very tough one this time around. I expect an invite to your garden restaurant 😉
Feel free
Bank robberies/ heist films is a genre I love. I really ought to watch more of these as there are some like The Ladykillers that I have heard nothing but good things about, but haven’t watched yet!
I got 8!
The original! Tom Hanks doesn’t make many bad film selections, but it seemed an odd choice for him to choose the remake. A low point for the Coen brothers too from all accounts.
I’ll make sure to add it to my next classics film list that I will watch next!
Ooooh I didn’t know many of these: only 4/15. I have some catching up to do!
It was a tough one. I really do recommend Heat, The Ladykillers and Now You See Me. I did a review of the latter if you’re interested. https://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2013/09/01/review-now-you-see-me/
I think I’m going to watch The Dark Knight again in the next few days.
I love the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy and The Dark Night is truly disturbing (in a good way) … enjoy!
Oy, The Ladykillers tripped me up! 14/15
You know your bank robberies. And your bank robbery masks ha. I’m guessing The Dark Knight is top. What’s your other favourite?
Yes, “The Dark Knight” employs one of the great bank robbery sequences, ever. Other favorites include “Charley Varrick”, “The Getaway” (Sam Peckinpah’s), and on the western side, “The Long Riders”. “Sexy Beast” had a good one, too. Would add, I really like “The Lookout”, as well.
This ask for the tips 🙂
Since this post of yours inspired, and HEAT and INSIDE MAN already re-watched this year, spun up the splendid THE BANK JOB for another viewing. Never gets old. 😉
That’s great 🙂
This was a tough one for me Alex. Only 6/15.😩
Not just for you. I don’t usually put up a difficulty warning. You’ll do better on the next one I’m sure 🙂
I only came up with five! Butch Cassidy and the Sun dance Kid…Such a remarkable Photograph.
Gotta love those outfits. Especially Robert Redford’s one.
An all time great match and movie!
Great list, Alex. I missed #11 and #14. The last great heist film I’ve seen lately was “From Hell or High Water”.
Would you recommend From Hell or High Water? I’ve not seen either of those two films either. Great score Cindy 🙂
I’ll second Cindy and recommend, as fast as possible, you see “Hell or High Water”.
👍
OMG You have to see FHoHW. Chris Pine, Jeff Foster, and Jeff Bridges give fine performances. The storyline is authentic and the setting captures the desperation and death of rural Texas. The score is good, too!
I saw Chris Pine in Wonderwoman recently and earlier today I saw Jeff Bridges in Tron. Got to be a sign saying i should 😄
10/15 not my finest score.
A really tough quiz. Surprised some people have done so well on it. The films really do show the different motives, emotions and complications involved with robbing a bank.
One of your toughest I’d say. You didn’t just have traditional heist movies too.
There were so many bank ones I’ll be doing heist movies as a separate category. You can think of it as an aggregate score when you take it.
Ah, I’m very much anticipating it.
Got 6! Mostly the first half I didn’t get. Lots of movies on my watch list. 🙂
Was a tough one. Hope you had a super nice weekend.
Robert Redford was such a beautiful man. Still is. I only got 7. I did like The Town and i’m not normally a Ben Affleck fan
One of your better scores on a tough quiz 👍
Thanks. I expect a gold star and a cookie
You only want the cookie!
Pretty much. You can keep the gold star
I sucked at this one! Not my finest moment 😉 That last one is on my to-watch list.
This was a toughie. Don’t worry about it.
Awww 🙂 Have a great rest of your day, Alex!
Hey Alex! I didn’t get ’em all but funny I was talking about Point Break just last night on a podcast as we were discussing female directors and that’s the first movie from Kathryn Bigelow that I ever saw.
How funny. It was great to see Wonderwoman being directed by a woman, and it being such a great film.
9/15. I haven’t actually seen that many of these.
It was a really tough quiz. I’ll bank on you doing better next time 😉
A pathetic 3/15 😦
There’s always next time. I’ve also done plenty of other ones I’m sure you’ll do well in 🙂
Haha wouldn’t bet on it 😂
Ha. We’ll see.
Shit I’m getting old. Took a few seconds to recall some of the titles. I knew it was LadyKillers but couldn’t remember the exact title, didn’t know The Bank Job. 13/15.
Still a great score on what was a really tough quiz. I do like The Ladykillers a lot, but Kind Hearts and Coronets is probably my favourite Ealing film.
Appreciate how you framed The Dark Knight.
What an awesome idea for a blog! Love it 🙂
That’s very kind Matt. Thanks.
I only got 1 and 5 wrong but that was a good quiz. Ill have to try harder next time.
That’s still a really high score. The Ladykillets stumped quite a few. A delightful film mind.
