I do wish we could chat longer, but… I’m having an old friend for dinner. Bye.
Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins) in the cinematic masterpiece Silence of the Lambs (1991), one of only three films to win the highly-prized quintet of Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Original/Adapted Screenplay. The psychological thriller told of an FBI agent who must work with a manipulative killer to catch another criminal. It was directed by Jonathan Demme, who sadly passed away earlier this week at the age of 73.
Sad loss. Classic quote.
An astonishing film. And he followed it up with Philadelphia. There were some touching tributes.
Was sad hearing of his passing. At least he leaves behind some amazing films to be remembered by.
For sure. The Justin Timberlake tribute was probably the most touching. Philadelphia was a really powerful film. Probably not as challenging as Silence of the Lambs but one he gauged just right.
Philadelphia really moved me as a film. I was crying my eyes out by the end of it.
It really is powerful. Great soundtrack too. And that scene in the library when she wants to move him into a more private room, asking him if he would be more comfortable. “Would it make you more comfortable?”
That scene really made me angry. Why can’t people just be more accepting? Whatever happened to respecting your fellow man?
And it wasn’t some menacing cretin, but a softly spoken librarian.
I don’t think I’d have been as dignified as Tom Hanks was. I would have really lost it.
I love this line as much as the film. I do want to revisit it. Ironically I wrote this line on a comments section for someone who reviewed the movie heh. The ambiguity of that one line seems so powerful and eerie with that touch of sophistication. I also like to have a friend or two for dinner..
There’s such a chilling delivery in the way Hopkins say this… and of course that ‘Chianti’ line still gives me the chills!
I love the way Hopkins delivers everything. He is so talented! I am not a fan of Westworld, unless its the scenes he is in. Lol. There is no way to say anything he does is bad .He is so smooth.
