Fox Mulder: After all you’ve seen. After all you’ve told me you’ve seen. The account filled with medical files, the beings moving past you, the implant in your neck. Why do you refuse to believe?
Dana Scully: Believing is the easy part. I need more than you. I need proof.
Fox Mulder: You think that believing is easy?
Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny in the seminal paranormal drama The X-Files (1993 – 2002) (2016 -). The quote highlights how the trusting yet complex relationship between the two, with Mulder aware of how his views on the supernatural are mocked by outsiders and Scully desperate to find a logic to explain them.
There were times during The X-files when I just wanted to knock some sense into Dana! Come on! Did you get to see the recent return to the series? And if you did, did you like it?
Nope. It actually inspired me to go back and watch then originals. I used to life the show growing up. It was the first non-sporting show I remember staying up late to watch. I thought I’d remember more. It’s been like watching it for the first time.
And haven’t both actors aged really well?!
Yes! They really have. I loved it too. I can’t remember many of the episodes either, just the one with the Cher impersonator! 😀
I haven’t got to that one. Sure sounds memorable! My favourite so far is this one from series 3. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oubliette_(The_X-Files)
Great quote from a fantastic show. It sums up their relationship perfectly.
I started watching it again from the first series. It’s the first quote I’ve seen that really sunken duo for me how they interact with each other and the world around them. What was interesting when in one-off episodes they sometimes switched roles and Mulder was the sceptic.
I did enjoy watching the journey of both, especially Scully.
Her religious faith adds a intriguing layer to her cynical personality.
I find that too. She’s a very complex character. Loved the depth Gillian Anderson invested her with.
I’ve been pretty inspired lately, especially on my naughty blog.
It’s a great show that I used to live watching too. It’s lovely to see the two reprise their roles once again into the unknown.
Scully: ” I’m Dana Sully, I’ve been assigned to work with you”.
Mulder: “well isn’t it nice to be suddenly highly regarded”.
It’s been so great watching from the start to see how their characters evolve and their relationship develops. And knowing that you have no idea what kind of storyline each episode will be is a different delight. So far, my favourite one is the one I mention in the comments above. Do you remember it?
That’s why i enjoyed it. Like Buffy, it had a new paranoia episode which was quite captivating. I don’t remember it precisely as it’s been a long time since I watched it and only once as it’s quite a long series but I remember the episode of black oil I think where they find some virus infecting people’s eyes nose mouth. Not sure why I remember that out of the many but it was quite fascinating. ☺
You’re probably ahead of me. I really think they couldn’t have chosen two better actors for the role. I do remember it being the first show I seriously watched where the quality dropped substantially later on and how much it upset me.
I believe it was in season three. Yes I agree, they just work very well together and further down the line it’s rather charming.
Yes I feel the same way. Somewhere down the season..in felt it wasn’t as exciting as the first three seasons made out to be and it got rather disappointing. I suppose that’s always the fear with tv shows.
As an adult, the only equivalent I can think of to the same level was Dexter. Wow, that dropped!
Heh..yes it was quite the ‘cutting’ ending.
No comment! Ha.
I love that first exchange between them.
So do I. It’s quite charming but awkward for them at first heh. And then they do anything to save each other down the line which builds up their relationship.
They are a great duo. And talk about chemistry!
Slowly working through The X-files. It’s such a good show with thought provoking characters
It’s a joy to go through the episodes again. I really can’t remember them so like with them from scratch. Still feels so fresh. Such imagination and character dialogue.
They made an incredible duo, but am I right in saying that they couldn’t stand each other in real life.
I heard rumours. I can’t imagine it helped when Duchovny made the cast and crew relocate so he wouldn’t have to move when shooting.
