After seeing the documentary Drew: The Man Behind the Poster, I became aware of the incredible talent of the illustrator Drew Struzan. Seeing his portfolio, I realised just how highly regarded he is within the industry and how much of his work I was already familiar with. While I pay close attention to actors, directors, composers and scriptwriters, I’ve never really thought about film posters before, apart from when I highlighted the ones I have in my bedroom. Here are eight of Drew’s more famous works, with some bonus ones thrown in. Do you have a favourite? For more information n the man himself check out this Wired article.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)

First Blood (1982)

The Thing (1982)

Hellboy (2004)

Back to The Future (1985)

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)

Bladerunner (1982)
And here are some from his most famous collaboration
love his Stuff! the doc abt his life and work was amazing! Love the BTTF and SW posters the best, but they r all excellent!
The Empire Strikes Back one is probably my favourite. And it wasn’t even the one used. Such a fascinating programme. Interesting how he was so poor to start with. He actually used toilet paper to draw on as there was nothing else.
He’s truly a wonder
Shawshank Redemption for me, for the portrait of Morgan Freeman – but they are all stunning
He’s some talent. He started off doing album covers and was super good at that too.
These are amazing. I can’t pick a favorite, they are all wonderful! Thanks for sharing, Alex!
Happy to 😄. As soon as I saw the show I knew it would be a post.
Some of these are truly iconic works. I’m a fan of Back to the Future poster in particular.
It was so successful the next two films had very similar posters. Is there a more universally loved movie than the first Back to the Future film? No one has a bad word to say about it and pretty much everyone has seen it.
Really cool
He’s so talented. I wish he did more album covers too.
Amazing stuff
It would be quite special to have these
This guy is a major artist. Just looking at his work here, you can see how well crafted they are through his eyes.
If never heard of him before but it’s clear how highly the industry rates him. No surprise given his creativity that he’s also done album covers. I bet he could do a whole set of old films in his vision too.
I would love to see those album covers. I’m a sucker for nice visuals.
They are very good but I’m glad he got into movies.

Some excellent covers there. Yes it’s fantastic that he’s mainly done movies.
OMG .. Indiana Jones ❤
That one sure is iconic
Back to The Future gets my vote – cool post!
Thanks. It’s certainly one of his most popular.
Wow, he has created so many iconic posters! I like the Indiana Jones one best 🙂
Nice choice. That’s certainly one of his most famous ones.
Some amazing artwork here!! I love classic posters; the artwork is brilliant. Like the posters of Metropolis, Gone with the Wind, My Fair Lady, et al!!
Great movies. These are the ones I have on my wall https://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2015/07/02/photography-film-posters/
Great posters and great post, Alex!
Thanks as always Ann
Harrison Ford – now and always… 🙂
He’s aged really well
These are all amazing. I kept picking a favourite and then changing my mind and then realised they were all my favourite!
I think a lot of people could happily accept all of them.
