Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.
Three time Grand Slam champion and four time Davis Cup winner Arthur Ashe (1943 – 1993). As well as his impressive achievements on the court, he was a true inspiration off it. Ashe played a crucial role in forming the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), vigorously campaigned against racism even during his career and set up the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of AIDS and Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health.
So true…
A real inspiration. I also read a book about him called Levels of the Game. It tells of a match between Ashe and Clark Graebner that discusses their background as well as the match. It would be interesting to read Ashe’s autobiography too.
I actually know who he is!
Very inspiring quote and man.
For sure. It’s a nice touch that the main stadium at the US Open is named after him.
Very cool
An Arthur Ashe autobiography would be such a good read. I bet there would be so many quote-worthy passages from it.
I don’t doubt it. He completed it soon before he died so it covered pretty much everything.
There’s something very elegant and universal about this quote.
It’s wonderfully understated and dignified too. I could easily have put a photo of him holding one of the Slam trophies. He’s still the only black man to win each of Wimbledon, the US Open and Australian Open. But he never stopped campaigning to make the world a better place and that smile could light up any room.
What an inspiration he was.
I love this quote. Small thing can have huge impact.
A lot of big things start off with small things 🙂
