Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain,
And you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today,
And then one day you find, the years have got behind you,
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.
Taken from the song Time from the seminal album The Dark Side of the MoonΒ (1974) by hugely influential alternative rock group Pink Floyd. Along with its iconic cover, the album was a worldwide smash, is regularly voted one of the best ever and has sold over 45 million copies. It is one of my favourite Pink Floyd songs, along with Comfortably Numb.
friggin’ love Pink Floyd. \m/
Incredible band. Just astonishing what they’ve created.
Time was/is/will continue to be such an epic song!
Time is Timeless π
I love this album. Still have my original vinyl record! Good choice of lines.
Thanks. Had been a while since I’d quoted Pink Floyd and this song, well the whole album, is astonishing. That cover is breathtakingly original too.
I love Pink Floyd! Reminds me of my childhood.
Takes me back too. Though I did listen to a lot of pop and indie then. I saw you as more of a Dancing Queen. And I say that as a good thing. Always liked Abba π
Well, I do like a bit of Abba too. But my dad listened to a lot of Floyd, Led Zeppelin and the likes… which means my taste in music has become rather eclectic!
A Whole Lotta Love for your eclectic taste π
Remains one of the greatest albums of all time in my (humble) opinion.
Not just yours, don’t worry. It says a lot about your good taste π It’s got me thinking what my favourite albums are. Along with that, I’d say Disintegration by The Cure, Thriller by Michael Jackson, The Stone Roses’ debut album, OK Computer by Radiohead, Violator by Depeche Mode and Funeral by Arcade Fire.
Gaunlet thrown down. Added to Dark Side: Closer (Joy Division), Pornography (Cure), Kiss in the Dreamhouse (Siouxsie and the Banshees), From the Lion’s Mouth (The Sound), The Madcap Laughs (Syd Barrett), Dizrythmia (Split Enz) and Virus Meadow (And Also The Trees). Thanks for making me think about this!
Great shouts. Awesome to hear you’re a Joy Division fan. The debut album was amazing. Closer was incredible. An amazing cover too. Sadly poignant too. Isolation is especially heartbreaking.
Agreed. For me Unknown Pleasures is, for the most part, quite a chilling yet objective view of the way in which we live – the exception perhaps being New Dawn Fades. Closer, on the other hand, is a more harrowing, subjective insight into Curtis’s relationship with life.
I read somewhere about many people who suffered with TLE who often experienced profound episodes or saw things ‘differently’. For me his lyrics read like this, multi-layered and saying more than the individual words. The Eternal sprins to mind.
I could go on, but I’m sure that you already know what I mean.
All the best. Chris.
What they achieved in such a short space was astonishing. For sure. Isolation stands out for me too. But this one always grabbed mehttps://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2013/10/07/lines-of-the-day-32/
I knew you had good taste! π Comfortably Numb also a great choice. Ever listen to any Neil Young? I love the Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Zeppelin, Beyonce, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Adele, Korn, Addison Road and Alicia Keys
