Nobody puts baby in a corner.
Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) in the much loved romantic drama Dirty Dancing (1987). Made for a low budget and with modest expectations, the film was a phenomenal financial success, had a hugely popular soundtrack, featured an iconic dance lift and led to numerous spin offs on stage and TV.
The part that always cracks me up is when Jerry Orbach says “When I’m wrong I say I’m wrong.” My wife and I always like “Okay well say you’re wrong.” π
He went out of his way to say it so it’s not too bad for me. I’m a big fan of his anyhow. He was amazing in Law and Order. First time I’d seen the film. One of those I’d been meaning to get round to but never had until yesterday.
One of my favourite films!
It is timeless. So many memorable songs too. You’ll have to let me know if you’ve ever tried the lift haha.
Best movie everrr!
It has such charm. And what dance moves!
Iconic line. I still like “I carried a watermelon” and the dialogue before the love scene is incredible sweet.
That is a very funny line. Especially as he walks off and then she mutters it back to herself in embarrassment. I loved the Jerry Orbach dad too.
Yes and yes! He’s a wonderful actor
I won’t tell you how many times I launched myself at boys expecting them to be able to do this life lol.π
You only need one person to catch you π
I think this more than anything else made me realise I was getting a bit too tall and heavy to be a ballerina π
I’m sure the grace you learnt from ballet has helped make you a better singer on stage π
Lift !
I do not understand the popularity of this film as it’s bloody awful but I do know all the songs because my mum was briefly obsessed with it when I was a child and played the soundtrack incessantly.
The film does have a real charm to it. The soundtrack really helped. Was your mum obsessed with any other film music?
The Crow.
Two very different sets of films and soundtracks.
