Let me tell you what I see here: a lot of raw talent. Swagger. Bravado. People are scared of you guys. They think you’re dangerous, but the world needs to hear it.
Jerry Heller (Paul Giamatti) in the biopic Straight Outta Compton (2015). The film depicts the emergence of controversial Californian hip hop group NWA, the inspiration for their music and the impact it had on both the group and American society.
I liked that movie…a bit hokey in spots but good.
The second half got a bit less structured and sentimental but yeah I did enjoy the film. Some great performances and superb music. A lot was going on in that period for sure.
The only thing is they glorify some of the people’s characters.
That’s true. There are some of the more unpleasant things missing for sure. But seeing as the band members were so heavily involved it isn’t that surprising I guess.
Definitely not surprising. Good point!
Great quote. And you guys said it all in the comments before mine.
It packed so much into the film. There were so many shocking scenes, but the verdict of the Rodney King case still amazed me.
His transformation for the role is cool. It’s amazing what movie makeup can do these days!
I know! I remember him from American Splendour and have seen him loads since, indulging rede y in Billions. Along with The Cinderella Man it’s probably my favourite performance of his.
Great! I’m watching this soon 🙂
You know how much I love your reviews 🙂
Thanks Alex 🙂
I still havent seen this movie
It tells of a very turbulent history in the USA as well as how creative and financial differences can come between any band.
