The West Wing

You know one of the things that happens when I stay away too long is that you forget that you don’t have the power to fix everything. You have a big brain, and a good heart and an ego the size of Montana. You do, Jed. You don’t have the power to fix everything. But I do like watching you try.

Abbey Bartlett (Stockard Channing) in the superlative political TV drama The West Wing (1999 – 2006). During its seven year run, it told of the President of the United States and his group of White House staffers’ issues when running the country.

  1. my fav show… EVER!!! too bad it only lasted 7 years… sorkin should return to making great tv shows like this and sports night!

    great quote Alex!

    • I never saw Sports Night. Will have to look out for it. I saw Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip which had Bradley Whitford, and some of The Newsroom, but I much preferred The West Wing. Every time a new character in The West Wing I wanted them them to come back, and yet I always loved the depth in the new characters. A superlative show.

  2. Great quote. I used to love this show till when Sorkin and Rob Lowe were on, but despite the depreciation in writing and quality in the final seasons, I remember it fondly.

    • The first four were sensational. Season five was atrocious. I still watched until the end though as it still had charm and depth in it last two seasons, even when the quality dropped significantly. I’m glad you liked the quote. I put a lot of thought into it.
