You know one of the things that happens when I stay away too long is that you forget that you don’t have the power to fix everything. You have a big brain, and a good heart and an ego the size of Montana. You do, Jed. You don’t have the power to fix everything. But I do like watching you try.
Abbey Bartlett (Stockard Channing) in the superlative political TV drama The West Wing (1999 – 2006). During its seven year run, it told of the President of the United States and his group of White House staffers’ issues when running the country.
Great quote and show.
It’s quotes like this that was why I loved the show. It had so much heart and passion to go with the intelligence and knowledge.
Yes and a great cast too. Thanks for the reminder. I haven’t thought about this show in awhile.
Lets hope we don’t find out what happens when someone with a small brain, a greedy heart, and an ego the size of New York and California combined get into the Oval Office.
Ha!
I think both options are like that right now ๐ฆ
and the war room of Dr. Strangelove becomes reality….god (or whatever term or phrase one wants to use) help us all…even Tiny Tim.
Guess it’s timeto move.. wait no where to go anyway ๐
What Tosha said. ๐
She does tend to have great taste ๐
my fav show… EVER!!! too bad it only lasted 7 years… sorkin should return to making great tv shows like this and sports night!
great quote Alex!
I never saw Sports Night. Will have to look out for it. I saw Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip which had Bradley Whitford, and some of The Newsroom, but I much preferred The West Wing. Every time a new character in The West Wing I wanted them them to come back, and yet I always loved the depth in the new characters. A superlative show.
Studio 60 was also very good and I loved the newsroom because of its dialogue but nothing compares to ww
As much as I love plenty of the other political shows in the list, The West Wing really is peerless for me.
Agreed. Nothing tops it!
Great quote. I used to love this show till when Sorkin and Rob Lowe were on, but despite the depreciation in writing and quality in the final seasons, I remember it fondly.
The first four were sensational. Season five was atrocious. I still watched until the end though as it still had charm and depth in it last two seasons, even when the quality dropped significantly. I’m glad you liked the quote. I put a lot of thought into it.
Iโll right away clutch your rss as I canโt find your e-mail subscription link or newsletter service.

There’s a button top right of my blog saying follow. That should do it. Thanks for the kind words.
That bit where they talk in Season 4 after he’s just won is beautiful. “You’ve got a lot of great days ahead of you.”
It’s a wonderful sentiment. I’ll be quoting the show again soon probably. One just isn’t enough.
Awesome, they’re a great fictional married couple.
Wouldn’t it be great to bring them to life?
Now more than ever.
