You’re gonna need a bigger boat.
Police Chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) in Jaws (1975), considered the first summer blockbuster. Despite a troubled shoot featuring technical problems and missed deadlines, it was a huge success and launched the career of director Steven Spielberg into Hollywood’s elite.
What a classic.
Just an incredible film. Really enjoyed the book too. The story behind the making of the film is fascinating. Be honest. How many times have you referenced the line? 😉
Oh I’ve referenced it so many times.
Too many for me to count too
I knew that as going to be the quote. Apparently I don’t need a bigger brain. Thanks, Alex!
Haha. With plenty of my film quotes, they aren’t the obvious choice, but this one just had to be used. That bit with the floating head under the water still makes me jump!
One of my favorite movie lines mainly because of how Roy delivers it. And that look of absolute shock… Priceless
Very true. A really well-made film. If only all blockbusters were that good haha.
And a completely ad-libbed line, too.
That’s quite brilliant!
It’s really sort of amazing how many great moments in movies were adlibed. Probably the reason they’re remembered is because they’re not expected.
My favourite ad lib is in the first Indiana Jones when he shots the swordfighting show off haha.
Harrison also ad libed the whole “Ah, everything’s fine up here,” line in “Star Wars”. Apparently he didn’t like the line as written, and Lucas told him to try something else. It’s one of the reasons why he’s stumbling through the scene, because he’s making up what so say as they’re filming.
Haha!
Harrison also ad libed the famous “I know” line, after telling Lucas that Han Solo would not say, “I love you, too.” Harrison seemed to do a LOT of that with Lucas . . . 😉
Funny. Never really seen him as an ad libber.
It seems to only happen with George Lucas. He is famous for telling George on the first movie, “You can write this stuff, but you can’t say it.”
You are full of cool trivia 🙂
Oh, and one of the greatest ad libs: Bill Paxton’s rant after the drop ship crash in “Aliens”. He was only supposed to say, “That’s it, man,” and there would be the rest of the scene with Riply and Newt. All from, “Game over, Man–” was made up on the spot.
You’ve inspired me to do a best sequels ever quiz. Aliens would most definitely be on it.
Aliens and Godfather II are right up there.
classic film, classic line. could watch the movie another 10 times 🙂
Really is a a classic. And that music! It’s the only theme that’s referenced as much as Psycho. It was even used as part of the music as one of the introductions for one of the fighters in a British boxing heavyweight title fight yesterday haha.
I was in high school when I saw this movie. Scared the bajezus out of me and I’ve never been the same about going into the ocean since!
I think that goes for most people ha.
Such an iconic line and such an iconic film.
Quite popular around the Christmas period, rather curiously.
