David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry in the hugely popular Friends (1994 – 2004). Though it only won six Emmys, the show launched the career of the six previously unknown actors, spawned countless memorable phrases, inspired copycat hairstyles and promoted a way of living that your friends could be your family.

  1. This is a real nonsequitur, Alex, but I’ve just discovered your Derren Brown (and spent the last few days with him on YouTube) and am AMAZED by him! It sounds like he’s been very well-known and popular in England for many years, judging by the dates of his performances on YouTube.

I was surprised to learn that not everyone in England knows John Oliver, who has been entertaining us for years now here across the pond.

If you like the cast of Friends, and you haven’t seen it already – and if you can stand fairly dark and snarky Drama, Jennifer Aniston does an impressive job of acting in “Cake”.

    • She has done some dreadful romcom films, but she has expanded her range a little recently. I first saw John Oliver on Community where he was very funny, though I’ve seen him a few times on The Daily Show. I think he was born sarcastic ha. And Derren Brown is certainly well known for sure. At the moment, the big name here is Dynamo.

      • Tough call. The “lightening round” episode is a classic. The One With All the Resolutions is up there for me with Ross’ leather pants fiasco. I also really love the episode when Ross and Mike try to bond and have absolutely nothing in common. Ross is by no means my favorite character, but when I think back to the funniest moments, he’s always closely involved.

      • The pants one is hilarious. Joey’s advice haha. Didn’t it involve talcon powder? And the one where Ross has bright and shiny teeth and tries to convince his date to switch the lights off. Only for his teeth to shine in the dark haha.

Ross and Mike is a funny one. Are you sure it wasn’t Russ? 😉 I did like Russian Dave though. It took me a second to remember the resolutions one. Chandler not saying anything sarcastic was hilarious.

      • We are about 5 or 6 episodes into the final season. My wife is also really into The Golden Girls. There is a marathon every Sunday, so I usually DVR all of the episodes for that day. I tried to find it on Netflix and Amazon so we could watch that one from beginning to end. But, it’s not available on Netflix, and it costs money for each episode in Amazon. I work from home on Fridays, so I put on Star Trek: The Next Generation, The X-Files, and recently – The A-Team.

      • My favorites are when all 6 are together for most of the episode. I love all of the Thanksgiving episodes. And I love the first flashback episode when Rachel thinks she’s getting blown off for the prom, and Ross dresses up, then her date comes after all. And when they all saw this on the video, Rachel went up and kissed Ross. I got so sick of their relationship, and Ross got way to whiny for me. But, that was one of my favorite moments. I also loved the episode when I think Ross has some kind of function or speech going on, and he is trying to get everybody dressed up and ready. Chandler and Joey were fighting over a spot on the couch. Then Joey leaves to go get dressed, and comes back wearing all of Chandler’s clothes.
And one more of my favorite moments was the one where Chandler and Rachel are eating the cheesecake that didn’t belong to them. Then towards the end of the episode, they are fighting over the cheesecake, and it winds up on the floor in the hallway. My favorite moment was when they were eating it off the floor, then Joey arrives, then whips out a fork he happened to carry, and said “So what are we having?”, and he starts digging in too.

      • Now that is a great answer! Excellent choices. I don’t remember the cheesecake scene but I can definitely picture it. The Thanksgiving ones were always good. I liked the one where Joey and Chandler fight over a girl when playing American football. It has a line included here which cracks me up big time! https://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2013/11/06/gr8at-joey-tribbiani/

Joey going commando was hilarious. As was his “a little too comfortable line”. My all-time favourite episode was the quiz where Monica and Rachel are fighting Joey and Chandler over the apartment. Hysterical!
