Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it’s all I got
We’re one
But we’re not the same
We hurt each other
Then we do it again
Taken from the song One by the Irish rock band U2, from their seventh studio album Achtung Baby (1991). Widely considered one of the best songs ever written, it showcases the songwriting ability of their lead singer Bono, who has demonstrated it in other songs such as If God would send his Angels and Beautiful Day.
I love the depth and emotions showed in this. Although I enjoy U2I have never been to listen to them. Wonderful notes you made on this, Alex. π
Thanks. I’ve been lucky to see them live and they did indeed play this song. The Unforgettable Fire was probably my highlight of the night.
One of my all-time favourite tunes, without question.
It’s an extraordinary song. I could easily have chosen any number of different lyrics from it.
One of my favourites Alex! Often have this on in the car along with Joshua Tree π
Those two albums are something else for sure. Mind you, they’ve consistently written good songs.
True Alex but I always think they were so much more raw and authentic when they were younger – price of success I suppose!
I suppose most bands are more rebellious in their early days.
I love U2, we saw them in Brisbane. One of the best gigs ever π I got to meet Bono on a plane when I was a little girl flying from Dublin to Nice π I remember going up to him for his autograph, I was terrified!!!
That’s so great you’ve met him. What was he like? Was he wearing the shades?
He was actually quite dismissive to be honest. I think I got him on a bad day. His wife Ali was lovely though, her and the kids were sitting behind us and my mum and her chatted for the whole flight. It was Ali who suggested I go down to Bono and get his autograph. Ah well, everyone has off days βΊοΈ
I’ve been lucky in that every celebrity I’ve met has been really nice. The use of celebrity doesn’t extend to the frontman of a multi-million award-winning rock group mind ha.
I generally hate U2 but I can just about tolerate this song.
That is the definition of damning with faint praise haha.
Achtung Baby! One of my all time favourite albums. I wish it was more readily available on vinyl, it’s hard to justify the $200 price tag right now on Amazon!
Incredible album. I was watching a documentary on how they made their Joshya Tree album. Fascinating how their process works. Not many bands stay together without change ups for so long.
Did you know environment loving Bono often books a second seat on a plane just for his hat?
I wouldn’t be surprised. I try to stay away from the stuff away from the music.

This is one of my favorite U2 songs. This and “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses” are my favorites from that album.
Both great songs. The other ones I really love are If God would send his angels, The Unforgettable Fire, Where the Streets have no Name and The Fly. They were amazing live.
I would love to see them live. It seems like they put on incredible shows. And they still sound good.
