There were ghosts in the eyes of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
in the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets
Taken from Thunder Road, the opening track of Bruce Springsteen’s breakthrough third album, Born to Run (1975). Although unreleased as a single, it has been regularly performed by ‘The Boss’ on live performances, and is widely considered one of his finest songs.
One of the finest songs ever recorded by the Boss in my opinion. It’s as if he is painting a picture of striking imagery for us with every word.
What a great description. It’s an astonishing song. This one has always meant the most to me https://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2013/12/05/1240/
One of my favorite lines from any Springsteen song-or any song- is from the title track of “The River”-“Is a dream a lie if it don’t come true; or is it something worse?”
Excellent choice π
You simply can’t beat your lines of the day posts.
What a lovely thing to say Vinnie. Thanks so much. I like to think they are like a roulette jukebox.
I like the sound of a roulette jukebox.
I need to invent one π
That would be cool.
Every line in that song is so evocative, so brilliant.
It would have been easy to quote the whole song. He has such a gift for songwriting.
You have great taste, Alex:0))!
Why thank you Beth π
It most definitely one of his finest and my favorite! The way the song leads into a crescendo by the end always takes my breath away. I followed Springsteen in the late 1970’s & 80’s attending a few concerts a week sometimes through 5 states- amazing every time!
His shows are legendary. My favourite is Secret Garden but he’s got so many. Is there a more famous New Jersey native?
Excellent album and do glad you shared this, Alex. It brought waves of happy memories. π
I should try and see him live. Such a gifted songwriter and such wonderful songs. I’m glad it brought you back so many happy memories π
