Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.
Taken from the multi-award winning children’s novella Coraline (2002) by British author Neil Gaiman. It was also made into a stop-animation film in 2009.
Wonderful. Thanks, Alex!
That’s so great you like it Ann 🙂
Gaiman is one of my favourite writers. I adore Neverwhere. I watched Coraline and thought it would be way too scary for young children!
I’ll have to look out for Neverwhere. What a cool title.
If you like fantasy it’s a must read.
Oh, don’t watch the BBC adaptation, though. Not good.
Having just read my first Gaiman – American Gods – I am more than intrigued to read this one… I saw the film, though!
Did you like the film? Much different to what you expected?
Having never read the book, I had no idea what to expect!
It was creepier than the trailer mind
Nice quote
Thanks. It links in well with the mention of Aesop’s fables a few posts back.
Never thought about fairytales that way, but that is so true. Great quote. Great movie, too.
Fairy tales and a modern retelling are all the rage at the moment.
I read a graphic novel adaption of the book and it was beautiful. Actually quite scary for kids!
I need to read some more. Only read one or two.
Love Gaimon!! Lovely post and image!!
Thanks. Glad you liked it 🙂
Great movie, my brothers got a thing about dolls with button eyes now though.
I hope he didn’t see The Ring haha
