With the 87th annual Academy Awards, there’s no way I couldn’t do a quiz to celebrate. I just had to top last year’s themed quiz. And so today’s quiz isn’t just a regular six films, but a bonus special with a film each from the past seven decades. Any predictions for this year? Any notable omissions from any of the lists? As always feel free to share any thoughts or comments under the answers below.
Answers below
1. It happened One Night (1934)
2. Rebecca (1940)
3. All about Eve (1950)

6. Gandhi (1982)

8/9 missed only rebecca.
very timely choice AR! 🙂
You really are on great form atm Rob 🙂
Only a few more hours!
Just need to convince them to do it on UK time 😉
LOL…yeah a bit off for you guys I suspect
I only knew a few. Forest Gump is a movie I can watch over and over 🙂
With a box of chocolates and shrimp cook in different ways? 😉
Bubba Gump wouldn’t have it any other way!
Totally!
5/9…eek! I should’ve known All About Eve and somehow drew a complete blank on The King’s Speech. Had no clue on the first two, though.
All About Eve really is wonderful. I do need to see it again. Not too bad a score. I know you’ll score even higher on the next set of quizes 🙂
6/9- not too bad, but I couldn’t remember the first two and then my mind went a complete blank on Annie Hall-duh! I wonder who will be joining the ranks of best picture tonight?
My favourite Woody Allen film. I think Boyhood will win Best Picture, Redmayne Best Actor, Norton Best Supporting, Moore Best Actress, Nightcrawler Best Script, Stone Best Suporting, Linklater Best Director
9/9! Almost didn’t recognize the Annie Hall one, but thank you Diane Keaton lol!
Impressive stuff Brittany 🙂 Is that your favourite of the nine films?
Probably All About Eve and King’s Speech.
I do have a soft spot for British films. I should do a quiz on them really.
I got 5… my knowledge clearly starts in the 70s!
The Godfathers, Jaws, Apocalypse Now, Alien, Clockwork Orange, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Taxi Driver, The Exorcist, Rocky. Not a bad decade to start with at all. All about Eve really is incredible if you get the chance.
I missed #7 and #8. I may be the only person in the world who hasn’t seen ‘Forrest Gump.’
Still a great score. Hope you had a great weekend and enjoyed the Oscars.
Run Forrest Run…. ❤
Well it’s not like anyone is catching him haha
A wonderful selection!
Greetings,
Ulli
So great you liked it Ulli 🙂
6/9 Great timing, Alex. I have enjoyed this one 🙂
So glad you liked it Paula
I got all of them right except for Annie Hall as I haven’t seen it. I just saw the first three you listed here recently as part of my Blindspot series, my fave is All About Eve!
All about Eve really is a classic. It won all the major awards when it came out. I really think you’d like Annie Hall. My favourite Woody Allen film.
Missed 8 and 5 – oh well
Did you see the Oscars? What did you think of it?
No – missed them – then again I don’t pay much attention to them anyway. Most of the films I like don’t seem to come up for Oscars very often
The way Nightcrawler was treated was dreadful. Not the first time the Academy has messed up. Still not sure how The Dark Knight won so little. I imagine the Oscars makes a great drinking game though.
I only knew the last couple but it’s really fascinating to see how film has adapted and improved over the decades!
There really were some classics back in the day. Do you have a favourite film?
I don’t think I could choose just one, I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and of course Forrest Gump is always good!
You definitely have to go to the Harry Potter Studios. You’ll love it. In case you need any more convincing haha… https://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2014/04/14/things-to-see-harry-potter-studios/
That was the first thing to go on our London list!! I can’t wait! 🙂
I couldn’t guess ‘All about Eve’ and ‘The King’s Speech’, but got all the rest. 7/9. I haven’t seen ‘All about Eve’, but have watched all the rest, including ‘The King’s Speech’. Amazingly, 6/8 films I’ve watched, mentioned here, happen to be my all time favourite films ever. Love ‘The Hurt Locker’ and ‘The King’s Speech’ too, but not in the same vein as ‘Rebecca’, ‘Annie hall’, ‘Forest Grump’, etc etc …
Great to find out more about your film tastes 🙂
