When routine bites hard and ambitions are low
And resentment rides high but emotions won’t grow
And we’re changing our ways, taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
The opening lyrics of the Joy Division song Love will tear us apart in 1981. Though never successful in the charts, decades later it continues to be regarded as a haunting classic.
My all-time favorite song. There’s many songs in the world I love but if I have to pick one. It’s this one.
Excellent choice. It is an incredible song. This sublime one is my favourite of theirs https://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2013/10/07/lines-of-the-day-32/
In my opinion Ian Curtis was one of the greatest lyricists of all time – his words are universally true.
He really was a poet of modern times. The music will live forever. After a lot of thought my top 5 are:
1: Atmosphere
2. Love will tear us apart
3. Isolation
4. Disorder
5. Transmission
Hard to pick, really. If pushed for a ‘five’ I would probably go:
1. The Eternal
2. 24 Hours
3. New Dawn Fades
4. Decades
5. Atmosphere
6. Love Will Tear Us Apart ( OK, so I couldn’t stick to five, although even ten would be difficult)
And, yes, a genuine modern day poet. Cheers.
It is tough to pick five let alone rank them. When I’m asked to do a top 50/100 films I always try and argue that Godfather 1 and 2 should count as 1 film seeing as they come in the same trilogy and arguably can’t be split haha.
So beautiful and sad!
It really is the epitome of sadness really. Astonishingly moving.
Huge fan of Joy Division. 🙂
I listened to their Best Of repeatedly during my first weeks at uni!!!
They were some band. I wish they had been able to produce more, but really I’m grateful they left behind what they could. Can you pick a favourite?
Huge fan on this song.
It’s astonishing. Glad to see so many Joy Division fans around 🙂
