I grew up watching all kinds of children’s TV. I had the lunch boxes, jumpers and toys of my favourite ones, and knew all the theme tunes and times they were on. I’ve done plenty of film quizzes, so in a nostalgic trip I thought I would expand it to TV shows of the 80s/early 90s I used to watch as a child. They’re not in any order and you’ll find the answers below. How did you do? What other ones did you watch?
Answers
1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987 – 1996)
2. Visionaries (1987)
3. X-Men (1992- 1997)
4. Fun House (1989 -19 99)
5. The Racoons (1985 – 1992)
6. Captain N: The Game Master (1989 – 1991)
7. Round the Twist (1989 – 2001)
8. Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors (1985)
9. Rugrats (1991- 2004)
10. The Legend of Prince Valiant (1991 – 1994)
11. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993 – 1995)
12. Knightmare (1987 – 1994)
13. Defenders of the Earth (1986 – 1987)
7 out of 13. (Not so great!) My favourite was Funhouse (obviously) Pat Sharp and his mullet, and not forgetting the twins! 2nd favourite was the ninja turtles. I had the video game on the old Sinclair – remember that bad boy? Close third was ’round the twist’ purely for random factor! I remember there being a kid with pig trotters for feet, in one of the episode- gave me nightmares for weeks!
That’s not so bad. Some of those only lasted one year. Well done for getting Round the Twist. I read most of the short stories too. Paul Jennings had a a very twisted sense of humour at times. Visionaries was great but I think it was just me who saw it. It was about knights given the powers to morph into an animal that most reflected their personality. A quite dreadful theme though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBoxGdz2Km4
Perhaps the others were ‘before my time’. The visionaries don’t ring a bell. Another one of my faves was the rugrats! I liked chucky 🙂 oh, and the wild thornberries! Are you going to do a round 2? There are soooo many!
And to think the Thornberries even got its own movie ha.
…and the Rugrats! Terrible it was..
I only got 6! But I loved Round The Twist so much. I remember visiting that lighthouse as a kid and being totally amazed at being in the place where all the shenanigans went down. What a great show.
What is it like? Your part of town?
It’s pretty nice! It just looks like a normal lighthouse near an abnormally gorgeous beach and coastline, but at the time it felt much more significant and awesome because of the show. It’s about two-three hours’ drive away from the city, so it’s a really lovely place to visit on the weekend!
Do you get to go up on it?
Sure do! I went up the lighthouse when I was a kid, you could go right to the top and have a look across the bay. It was pretty amazing. Unfortunately the inside of the lighthouse isn’t as cool as on the show!
I’ve never been in one. The view must be amazing. I imagine this song would come to mind https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mkidP2OUCk
Haha! Totally! I think I was singing the show’s theme song the whole time.
Sorry, haven’t seen any of those
I imagine one or two would still be entertaining as an adult. I hope yours growing up were fun too.
I don’t know any of them! LOL
No worries. It’s not like they are shown much these days ha.
I only got Power Rangers. That was my favorite show of all time. 🙂
Get any of the toys?
I got about 8 of them. I loved Round The Twist-I was just singing the theme song to that the other day! I also loved Knightmare and the X-Men cartoon. And Power Rangers!
You were singing the theme tune the other day? Wow, small world. It is catchy mind.
I loved Visionairies! The toys were great too
I knew someone else out there had to have seen it. Would have loved the toys. They must have been amazing.
Yeah they had the holograms on their chests. My favourite toys ever!
5, 9 and 10 for me. I’ve never heard of most of them!
You remember the Prince Valiant one? I thought that was one of the more obscure ones.
It was popular in South Africa where I grew up.
Guess I was not an aficionado of kids’ TV. Only got two right – The Turtles and Rugrats.
We had it called Hero Turtles here, as Ninja was considered to be too violent. Used to love that cartoon. Amazing to think they could make turtles cool, an animal no one really thinks of.
Interesting on the difference in linguistic titles. Was a great cartoon, though.
Well I was all over TMNT, Rugrats, X-Men, and Power Rangers. As for the rest…I failed. Lol.
Some of them really didn’t well to the States I’m guessing. I’d love to know which was your favourite turtle though. Michaelangelo?
Oh totally. I almost always go for the funny characters. Mikey is the best! 🙂
Not forgetting his love of pizza 🙂
