(narrating) I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don’t want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I’d like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can’t be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a grey place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free.
Red (Morgan Freeman) in The Shawshank Redemption (1994), adapted from a novella by Stephen King.
Beautiful scene, how they showed everyone listening.
It’s a very moving part of the film.
When Stephen King is good he’s very very good, but when he’s bad he’s horrid. Says mother goose and I agree! I love this movie. I recently read 11/22/63 and it’s incredible. I really enjoyed it. Have you read that one?
Ha. I haven’t no. You recommend it then? 🙂
If you like Shawshank King, I think you’ll love it.
Thanks for the recommendation 🙂
My pleasure! Have a great day, Alex.
Awesome movie! And I adore Stephen King! 🙂
Hugz ❤
Glad you like it.
NICE!
Maybe the best scene of the film really
Love. Shawshank. 🙂
It is one of the all time great films.
Best film of all time?
It has a very good argument. What other ones would you choose?
Yes, I agree. Possibly, Catch me if you Can, Wolf of Wall Street and The Dark Knight are in with a shout; although there are so many. You?
The Dark Knight is one of my favourites too. The Third Man, Badlands and Bridge on the River Kwai would be up there for me.
Great choices!

Such a great scene in such a great film.
The song is Sull’aria…che soave zeffiretto – Mozart from The Marriage of Figaro, I love this aria.
I knew you’d know it! Do you remember when you first heard it for the first time?
I sang the Countess role when I was about 16 so ten years ago, we entered a competition with it and won. Then when I watched the film I loved that part and sang along.
What a wonderful connection to that song. Well done Charlotte! 🏆
