With the release of the Yves Saint Laurent film today of the genius designing talent, I just had to do a French quiz celebrating some of the great French films (and remind you to click here for biographical quizzes). Are you more magnifique or mauvais? Find out how much of a Francophile you are by working out the six films below.
Answers below
1. Rififi (1955) – Du rififi chez les hommes
2. Breathless (1960) – À bout de souffle
3. La Haine (1995)
4. Amélie (2001) – Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain
5. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) – Le Scaphandre et le Papillon
6. Blue is the Warmest Colour (2013) – La Vie d’Adèle – Chapitres 1 & 2
Breathless came on not too long ago on TCM. I had never seen it before, but wow. Brilliantly shot.
I really do want to see it!
I still need to see La vie d’Adele
Me too, it has got some great reviews,
5/6. You got me with The Diving Bell and the Butterfly! Is the film as good as the book, do you know?
It was a great film. I’m not sure I could read the book. Watching the film knowing it is a true story was tough enough.
I thought the book would be a bit gut-wrenching before I started it, and it is a tough read, but definitely a worthy one.
Only knew 4 and 6. Amelie is one of my favorite flicks. Ever. Period.
One of my favourite opening pieces. When she cuts the mean neighbour’s antennae when they are about to score haha. Have you seen much else of Audrey Tatou?
A little. I’ve seem Da Vinci Code, A Very Long Engagement and Therese. She’s quite good in the second, okay in the first and lacking in the third. None of them equal her turn as Amelie. You?
Not one actually. My sister has Priceless which I will try and see.
I intend to see Priceless at some point, but I haven’t done so yet.
1/6. Yeesh. You’ve had some toughies lately, my friend!
Next one up is Scarlet Johnasson 🙂
