My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
Maximus (Russell Crowe) in Gladiator (2000)
One of the best moments in an otherwise overrated film.
A Beautiful Mind is the one I always thought was more overrated.
I think that one is more overrated. Much more. I flatly dislike A Beautiful Mind.
Gladiator I could still enjoy if it hadn’t been for all the Oscar nominations and awards. It didn’t deserve them, and I have never been able to get past it to judge the film on its own merits.
I saw this twice before the Oscars, both times in the theaters. And enjoyed it. After the Oscars I hated it. I tried watching it once on DVD, but I found I was only looking for reasons to justify my hatred, so I stopped.
The film that gets me mad the most Oscar wise, is The English Patient. I turn into Elaine Benes whenever it gets mentioned.
Yeah. I don’t love that one either. Though I also don’t hate it.
9 Oscars dude! (weeps)
2000!
This year,Gladiator will turn 14!
Man,I remember when this movie was just released.I even deemed it ‘new’ two years later when, still a kid,I watched it on Canal +!
Time flies….
It’s this century though 😉
yesss! 🙂
Ha, thanks 🙂
Great moment from a great movie, you can see every ounce of anger and determination within Maximus in this scene.
It was the iconic moment of the film. Really liked the soundtrack too.
