With the release of this year’s nominations, and the undoubted shocks and surprises, it’s worth having a reminder of past films that didn’t even get a nomination. If you can suspend your shock enough to concentrate, below are six superb films that have lasted despite being ignored by the Academy. See if you can work them out. Feel free to try the quiz Modern Films Ignored by the Academy.
Answers below
1. King Kong (1933)
2. His Girl Friday (1940)
3. The Big Sleep (1946)
4. A Matter of Life and Death (1946)
5. Night of the Hunter (1955)
6. Paths of Glory (1957)
Oh shit, I only know the first one.
🙂
Next one will be colour and I’m sure you’ll get your average up
1 for 6 this time. Only knew King Kong. Not surprising, since it’s the only one I’ve ever seen.
I can’t recommend film 5 and 6 enough. Genius films.
I LOVE black and white films! I recognized all of them 🙂
I’m impressed. 5 was a tricky pic especially.
Its just that I watch a channel that is completely for black and white films plus I own some….films from those times were so much better…don’t you think?
Send that channel down here! ha
