As the night fades to nothingness
And the nothingness fades back to light,
I sit alone staring at the sky
Lay ever infinitely away, ponder what I am thinking.
That laying before a heartless horizon I so adore
I am destined to be replaced,
And never to be traced,
Back to the chance for a paradise I never faced.
But I am to be comforted.
The sky will always sleep above me,
It guarding me forever,
Until that nothingness
never dies again…
And again…
And again…
“The sky will always sleep above me.” Beautiful.
It’s my favourite image of the poem too. Thanks for your comment 🙂
Enjoyed this. Thank you for posting.
Thanks 🙂 I’ve put a few poems up already and will try and put some more up.
I really enjoyed this one. I particularly love the first stanza – I have an affinity for the night and gazing up at the sky, feeling that sense of infinite and finite merge. I think this part really resonated with that in me.
I love looking at the sky too, especially before going to bed. So cool the poem captured that in you too.
Beautiful work, Rafael! I just love the whole picture!
Great philosophy in this poem! It takes you with the mind in so many places…
Thank you for posting! 🙂
Your comments mean a lot. I’ve always thought writing is exploring and poetry gives you more license than ever to create images.
It is what poetry should be.
Thank you Paula
What a lovely way to describe it 🙂
This is beautiful Alex, I adore your use of rhyme, perfect meter, and the format that is unique.
“But I am to be comforted.”…wonderful poetry.
Thanks. I just looked out of the window one night and the inspiration was just there 🙂
This is completely beautiful on so many levels. 🌹
Thank you. That means a lot. This poem has always been very close to my heart.
This is beautiful Alex. I love the imagery and that you allow the reader their own interpretation. For example the lines,
“I am destined to be replaced,
And never to be traced,
Back to the chance for a paradise I never faced.”
There’s an intimacy to it. Maybe because it feels like a private moment.
I’m so glad you liked it. It was all inspired by the view from my bedroom window and the thought of wondering if anyone else was doing the same thing at that same moment.
Sounds like the meaning of life! Wondering if anyone is experiencing the world in the same way. Really cool Alex!
Thanks Sandra. Always great to see you.
